Is there any value to once fired .223 brass, or just scrap value? I have an almost full 5 gallon bucket of mostly Wolf Gold, and a mixture of different manufacturers. I'm guessing there is north of 3k rounds in it, but not gonna count it. I don't reload, but have been picking it up, so the ranges don't make money off of it. Thanks.

Wolf Gold is actually pretty good brass IMO. I use it to resize to 25-45 Sharps. The way things are right now, I would be very surprised if you had any trouble selling it. 2cents

It's always worth more than scrap brass prices but right now it's worth a lot more than say 2 years ago. Sell it or trade it for loaded ammo.

Thanks for the responses. Do you fellas have a round a bout asking price, or is it just whatever they are willing to spend? I guess I could weigh it and get a guesstimate on the case count? I dang sure don't want to count them.

I bought 1000 pieces for $60 and thought it was a great deal. It’s was range pickup, mixed headstamp and in pretty bad condition. You could prob sell it for $0.10-$0.15 a piece pretty quick.

There are about 75 cases per pound and when sold by the pound is bringing about $6-$7 per lb. That about 2X what I was paying 1 year ago. A full 5 gallon bucket will contain approximately 3600 cases and weigh about 50 lbs. Price is less when purchasing a full bucket, about $250 today.

Great info. Thank you!

I bought 69,000lbs of once fired LakeCities 7.62x51mm brass at a government auction about 11 years ago and tried selling it in lots of 1000 and couldn't give it away. The scrap yard gave me 2.40 per pound and took it all in a single lot. My asking price to sell it for reloading was about half of what the scrap yard gave for it and I was super pissed that I had to get rid of it that way. I even called Black Hills and they had no intrest.

Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.

I bought 1000 once fired Lake Cities 7.62x51mm brass one time. Its mostly been machine gun fired and difficult to resize. You have to remove the primer crimps and probably check for length and trim if necessary. Its a lot of work!

I said to myself I hope I never have to do that again.... but the times they are a changing....

I view Lake City 5.56 as more value than Lake City 7.62x51

Heavy duty .308 brass is less appealing to me than heavy duty .223 brass.

Then I stand corrected and wish I had not said "always". I'll bet if you had that brass today for sale, you could make a profit.

Since some people like to sort I would keep the gold by itself and the rest sell as mixed. $70 per K is pretty cheap right now. I use 5.56X45 brass even though it's more work but many don't like the hassle so the WG will suit many.

Pass the gravy.

Sad part is, when I go to my local range, .223 brass is all over the ground still. I've probably picked up more than I'll ever shoot.
