Hate to see them go. You found a beautiful one.

thick as thieves in the 50's (S. W. Ks) so bad they devastated the winter wheat, 20yds or so around the edges, we even had a rabbit drive once, turned out like a Chinese fire drill

hold on Newt, we got a runaway

When I was a kid, with Muleshoe as the nearest town, we had a lot of them and blue quail. Also goat heads and devils claws.

We've got a bunch of them, every three or four years I thin them out a little, one year I shot 173 with about 50 of them coming off of my place. One of my most enjoyable hunts was when I invited the PD and the SO to bring their kids out for a weekend rabbit hunt, they had a blast and we cooked them up a bunch of Cottontails and even a few young Jacks. Buddy of mine used to teach down at Sul Ross and he claimed that 18 Jackrabbit could eat as much as one cow in a day.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

It seems like there were a lot more jacks when we used to shoot them. Now that we never kill one they are scarce.

We named one of our deer blinds/food plots “Jack Rabbit” because that’s were we see them.

See more in sheep and goat country due to trappers killing out the cats and song dogs.
