Have y’all noticed or does there seem to be a whole lot more scammers on TGT as of lately?

TGT has been full of scammers for years. I don’t even look over there anymore. It’s the Craig’s list of the gun world.

I’ve got some decent deals on there from time to time. But I agree sometimes things seem sketchy and I walk on those. It just seems heat recently that there has been a huge increase in scammers to me

I don't mess with Armslist anymore - but while the scammers are there on TGT now you can usually weed them out easily by looking at their location. if it isn't D/FW I won't mess with them. As for getting robbed, it hasn't happened. Seeing as I'm a Texan driving a truck with an NRA life member sticker, .50 Caliber bullet antenna, and Come and Take It hitch cover - I don't expect it to either. I buy and sell there quite frequently. Just yesterday I picked up an almost new PTR 91 GI railed with 7 mags and 200rds of ammo in a case for $950. That would have been a deal pre-covid.

I've never had a problem with buyers from TGT. Good communication and meet at a well lit and public place. Local FTF transactions only.

I got my 2 best deals off TGT. I also had 2 folks try to scam me. They wanted money shipped to addresses outside the Dallas area ( looked on Zillow and the houses were for sale so I guess they were empty) and they were going to mail me the firearm, a handgun no less. Big red flag!

Just be cautious.

No issues with TGT, but I’ve only done a few deals on the site.

I've never purchased one on TGT. I like all of my firearms to have a paper trail.

There has been a huge increase in scammers on all the gun sites recently, especially with WTB ads. Mostly, they just pull pics from Gunbroker auctions or Armlist listings and then try to have you send them the money. They will never agree to a FTF deal, which is all I ever did when I lived in TX and was using TGT.

As others have said, as long as you are careful and look for the warning signs, you should be good to go.

TGT is the toilet of the gun world. I visit the toilet often, I got my 509c Tactical and Aero AR-10 off there.

Never had a problem once you settle on a local meetup. Seems lots of tire kickers and want stuff shipped. I only deal FTF there as well as other places when selling a gun. Like to know who I’m selling to.

Couple of rules to not get screwed:
Check the location
Look at the member since date
No phone number and or a bs email with a price that isn’t believeable is a scam

There’s a few good folks on there, but be smart and don’t send any money for any reason meet in person at a busy area and pay cash.

Everything being sold out and unavailable drags the scammers out.. it’s truly sad.

Lately there are a lot of really nice guns being posted cheap on TGT. Funny most of them are in Brownsville.

TGT is a pain to deal with. The Nigerians have completely penetrated it but they are easy to spot. If they say they will mail the gun after they receive payment then they are scammers. If they just signed up they typically are scammers. There is an IP address check link at the top of every TGT ad. If it is not local to where the ad claims to be from then it is a scam. If the price is simply too good to be true then it is not true no matter how much you want it to be. Last but not least; only the greedy can be ripped off.

It's a good place for deals, but definitely have to be careful. I walked from a few shady deals.

Most of the listings are trash. That being said, some of my best deals have been found there. I meet face to face in a populated area during the day while armed AND take a buddy who is armed. Just look at the join date and ALWAYS click the IP map thingie to make sure they're not posting from Denver or Mongolia.

Pass the gravy.

Had another perfect deal with a guy in Frisco yesterday. No BS, great communications and met in a well lit area. He bought a Glock 32 w/ ammo. Nice guy but a liberal.

Most of the sellers are from Austin, SA, or Houston.

Pass the gravy.
