Who has hog lights on their feeders for pigs? I am looking at getting some of the green led lights that are motion activated for pig hunting at night. Who uses them? How long does it take for the pigs to get used to them? Any other feedback?

I guess they work. There was one by the feeder at my place when I bought it. I have seen it come on a time or two and it doesn’t seem to affect the hogs at all. I have never tried hunting using it. I opted to get a thermal instead. The technology has gotten better and prices have came down. I like being able to see anywhere.

I have used security lights from Harbor Freight for years. They pretty much run all night, and brighten up when there is movement. They usually run about 25 bucks and will work for a long time. They come complete with a solar charger.

I've used the Harbor Freight lights that turn off completely. They're a white light, but it seems like it only takes the hogs about five minutes to get used to them.

Curiously, any good battery-operated rigs out there?

As long as the feeder is feeding them, lighting (white, red, green) doesn't bother them long at all. They're smelling yellow anyway. Lights and or alarms allow you to know when it's rifle time.

This is the truth.
Sitting in the dark waiting for hogs, and then the light comes on and you know something is there.
Sometimes it's just raccoons or deer, but it's a definite "Pay Attention" signal that helps you avoid missing an opportunity.

I use them all the time; all solar powered, some motion activated; buy 'em at Lowe's. They last for years, totally maintenance free, in my experience. As mentioned in other responses, the piggies get used to them real fast as long as the corn keeps dumping out for them, and they don't care what color the lights are.

Curious...to those using security or motion lights...under or near deer feeders..
Does the light/motion scare the deer?
I do not want to disturb my growing deer population.
My purpose is feeding the deer (not hunting them)...but taking down all the dirty, low down, corn eating pigs I can shoot!

Your deer will absolutely get use to whatever lighting system you decide upon. They are like tall pigs: put the corn out and they'll show up and vacuum it up, regardless of the lighting!

Agreed!
Since I only hunt hogs, I'd love it if a motion light would chase the deer away. That's not the case.

Deer are smelling yellow like hogs and coons and don't care about the lights.

Thanks all...for all the advice on using motion activated lighting for night hog hunting...I am going to try it soon.

I am not sure if this is the right or appropriate place to post this question...so forgive me...

But for all you THF users...has any one here utilized the TX built Slow Glow Wild Hog Hunting light systems?
They look like a well designed (albeit a bit pricey) packaged system...this seems like a simpler and perhaps better solution than cobbling together less expensive security lights and then applying green or red film to color the harsh white LED's?

The self contained control housing/mounting, backup battery, slowly increasing light intensity and the remote control features are my attractions.

White light works too.

Don't worry about applying green or red film to color the harsh white LED's. Hogs and deer and other creature who come to visit your feeder will get used to the white lights.

Moultrie hawg lights. Green light. I put two under feeder , one on both ends of a piece of rebar that I put through the cage over the feeder. Lights up the entire feeder pen.

I like that rebar idea. Very simple install. Thanks.

Here is one of my feeders with the TX built Slow Glow Hog Lights installed. Actually a pretty cool easy to use kit.
This big sounder was all lite up for dinner... the light allows you to stalk from behind the light for your personal preferences without being seen [Linked Image]
I did not hunt that night...but planning to ASAP.

I usually hunt hogs over my feeder with thermal only but recently added the Slow Glow light and it works to perfection. I can now hunt with or without any thermal or NV scope. Have a Moultrie hog light at another feeder that also works but less illumination area. Plan to replace the Moultrie with another Slow Glow. I thought I had a problem with Slow Glow initially and called them for assistance. Got the designer of the light on the 'phone and found out it was operator error and shot my next hog 24 hours later. Good system.

I purchased a Slow Glow several weeks ago, and so far like it a lot. Expensive set up, but works as advertised. The problem we have, we were covered with hogs and went full Rambo on them (along with several neighbors) over the holidays, and now, none to be seen. Traps are empty, no sigh on cameras, and the times I've hunted the Slow Glow feeder, zilch in the way of hogs. I'm not anxious for them to come back (and they will), but would like to bag one under the Slow Glow eventually.

They went where there's food & less pressure. They WILL be back!

I use Mr. Beams D-cell powered. They last a long time, depending on activity. I had to fashion chicken wire cages for them because the squirrerls were gnawing on them.
