I was doing some research for a new O/U and came across some comments being made that currently Browning shotguns outsell Beretta's. The specific reason was that Browning's fit taller people better than Beretta, they did not specify a parameter of what they consider a "taller" person to be. Since there are more "taller" people that more Browning's are sold. I'm 6'3" and own Beretta's and I have shot Citori's and really have not ever noticed that much of a difference for me on the fit. Now i do know people have owned either shotgun and did not shoot them as well as another gun but that didnt have a direct result of being too short or tall.
I thought this would be an interesting poll to see if there was really a difference from our community of "taller" people. If you own multiple brands please pick the one you shoot the best, doesnt matter if it is a game/field series or sporter.

A) You should ask for height in a ‘height related ‘ poll.

B) Price difference will make more difference than tall vs. short in amount of sales.

I won’t buy Beretta off the shelf due to them casting stocks right or left handed so you have to find a lefty which is special order. Browning are neutral as far as I know..... that way they don’t fit anyone perfectly

Back in 2000 I went skeet shooting with a co-worker and he let me shoot his Weatherby Orion. Something about it just fit. I loved that gun and have almost bought one a few times. At Scheels the other day I shouldered an SKB 690 (which I think is basically the same gun) and it was like it was made just for me. I’ll get one someday.

I can’t say I share the same thoughts; typically Beretta has more LOP, drop, and cast than the Browning. Within makes the models also have varying stock dimensions, so it’s hard to compare fairly. Price and name(JMB)familiarity is why Browning out sales in the US. Odd since the current Browning offerings have little to do with original JMB design. Modern A5 and cheapened Citori come to mind, granted im no lover of the Superposed design, but it’s proven.

for me, brownings point way better than any other brand. I have a Weatherby Athena I like alot too but I shoot the browning lights out

I have owned a few O/U and the Beretta I have had since 1985 still fits me best and I shoot it better than the Browning, Ruger and Winchester I have owned. I am not tall at 5'8" but do have a 6'1" wing span so a longer LOP seems to do a little better for me. I am down to just the Beretta for O/U. I bought a very nice Ruger Red Label about 15 years ago with great walnut on it, took it dove hunting and after 1 box of shells had one bird, pulled out the Beretta and only missed twice filling out the limit for the day. Right after that sold the Rugger.

Thanks for all the great comments!! I guess my biggest issue with the Brownings have always been the inertia trigger system they use. Looks like they have finally addressed that and are utilizing a mechanical trigger in the newer 725's and Cynergy's. The Beretta trigger has always been good for me. I am surprised there are not more 686/687 votes/comments.

I have both beretta and Browning OU’s. Like you ziggy I am a southpaw and am a lanky broad shouldered 37” sleeved 6’ 1” tall. Most of the over unders I own have left hand wood that is fit to me. I am an avid bird hunter and shoot instinctive. In the off-season I shoot a lot of clays to stay sharp. I have a 12 guage Browning citori lightning that i left unaltered except a spacer added to get the LOP to 14 1/8”. It is cast neutral and has 2 5/8” drop at the heel. I shoot it pretty well as is. The rest have 3/16” cast on and 2 3/8” drop at the heel. The one I shoot the best is a 20 guage citori. Larry Feeland in Cypress fit it for me. We did a lot of work on a pattern board and he tweaked it till it was perfect. I have ran more 25 straights on the skeet field with it shooting low gun than all of the rest of them combined. It is by far my favorite bird gun.

If you want to buy one and shoot it as is I would look at a left hand 725 Browning, a left hand Beretta 686/687, and a Citori lightning and see which one mounts under your eye the most naturally with very little rib showing. FWIW I wanted to like the Beretta best. It is the best looking shotgun of the ones I have. I shoot the Brownings better though.

Edit to add: I am a bird hunter and shoot field guns.

Have a field Citori Feather Lightning in 20 gauge. Love it for dove and upland game. Kicks like a SOB though have to put a limbsaver on it for dove season. Love the point on that gun.

The best fitting shotgun I’ve ever picked up was a Browning Cynergy Feather. (Discontinued)

The worst was a 686 SP 2.

I have a Browning Superposed (my favorite) and a Charles Daly that both seem to fit me (and shoot) identically.

I've never shouldered anything else that feel so good to me. I'm sure something exists....but I am happy with these. I have untold thousands of rounds through the both of them.
