Any propane heater gurus in here that could maybe help shed some light on how I could fix my Mr Buddy?

I’ve done some light searching in the past, but nothing really became of it.

I have a “hunting buddy” mr buddy heater that’ll run about an hour to an hour and a half, then sputter out and die. The little green propane bottles freeze up, I swap to a new bottle, then get another hour to hour and a half. It doesn’t matter if I’m running on high or low, it will freeze up every time. I do have a hose adapter and could run a larger tank, but I move this heater from stand to stand pretty regularly. I could buy another heater with two hose adapters, but trying to eliminate that idea for now.

My brother in law has a mr buddy heater as well, and he says he can go 3-4 hours and his bottle never freezes. confused2 He said it doesn’t even freeze the outside up

Here’s mine this morning after running for 45minutes to an hour. When it starts sputtering, I can typically tilt it out and get another 15 minutes or so before it dies out again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Couple options.

1. Rotate the 1 pound bottles. One starts to freeze, switch then out.

2. Get a 5 pound tank and hose.

When mine is almost empty, the bottle will frost up.

I just rotate the 1 pound bottles for now. I was hoping mine was the issue, but after talking to my brother in law, his doesn’t freeze up even when it’s getting close to empty. His goes strong until it’s just flat out empty.

I’ll give the ol a-tip a try again. It didn’t seem to do much last year when did it. It did help the pilot light, but not freezing the bottles up when they were still half full

I used to work at a wastewater plant and fed chlorine out of one ton cylinders. To me that looks like one of two issues, too high of a feed rate or low volume. However based on your freeze line that should represent the remaining liquid level{about 50%). Are you sure you don't have a leak somewhere? They will freeze like that even in warm weather, I say check your connection real good for a leak.
hope that helps, if nothing else call your local propane company they can set you straight.

Mine has never froze, but I probably haven't ran it over 2 hrs at a time. Think I'd call MR Buddy, sureley they have had this issue and may have the "cure", or at a minimum know if there is any waiting danger coming.

Both of mine do that every time the bottle is just about empty. I haven't worried about it.

x3. When I boil crawfish, the large propane tank for the burner will ice up on the bottom half.

Mine only does that when it’s close to being empty.

I say the orafice in the bottom of your heater is a little too big and using too much propane and it's freezing up.

We "had" 4 of them on our lease, 3 crapped out half way through a season so we pitched the lot. Customer service was hit and miss and there are too many similar experiences to make us reconsider them. The Coleman catalytic ones were awesome, but they stopped making them frown
