What would you guys recommend that's not to expensive. I don't have areas much over 250 to 300 yards at most where I hunt. Primarily good on low light situations. Didn't want to go crazy on price. Thanks for any input

Excellent clarity, great low light capability. Terrible color. Yes, you have to give up good color to get bang for the buck in this class. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Look at some Nikon 10 powers. I know the glass quality is good, but I have to admit I’m not up to speed on their prices. And you can get refurbished Nikons. I hunt with Leicas, but every outside window in this house has a set of Nikons next to it.

We are running the Athlon Ares 8x42 on sale for only $199.99, reduced from $389.99, through the end of the month.

ED Glass- High definition glass: ED glass gives you an image with little or no chromatic fringe so the final result brings a clearer and sharper image to your eyes

ESP Dielectric Coating- Enhanced Spectral Prism Dielectric Coating: ESP Dielectric Coating is a multi layer prism coating that reflects over 99% of the light to your eyes bringing you a clear, bright image that displays accurate color reproduction.

Lightweight Magnesium Chassis: Magnesium chassis give you the strength of a metal chassis while reducing the weight as much as 35%

XPL Coating- Xtra Protective Layer coating: XPL Coating gives you an extra protection on the exterior lenses from dirt, oil and scratches

Phase Corrected prisms: Phase corrected prisms produce images that have better contrast, a higher resolution and better color reproduction

BaK4 prisms: Bak-4 glass prisms reflect more light to your eyes which will give you brighter and sharper image.

Advanced FMC: Advanced Fully Multi-Coated lenses gives you better light transmission to bring optimum brightness and true color across the entire light spectrum.

Long Eye Relief: Long eye relief can be particularly important for eyeglass wearers because longer eye relief allows them to still see the entire field of view.

Close Focus: Close focus is important for those who are nature observers and especially important if you are going to watch butterflies or insects

Twist Up Eyecups: Twist up eyecups with intermediate stops allow you to set the eyecups to the ideal eye relief for you eyes

Waterproof: Waterproof to protect the binocular in the harshest weather conditions or if accidentally submerged underwater

Argon Purged: Argon purging gives you better waterproofing and thermal stability

I bought a pair of Hawke EDs from Cameraland three years ago and have been pleased with them.

For the distance you cite stay with 8x magnification or below. Above 8x it is difficult to 'hand hold' without seeing a shaky image.

Buy the 'best' glass you can. Also consider 'used' binoculars (in good shape), this will stretch the quality available for your given budget.

Try Leupold BX-1 Mckenzie 10X42. Great clarity, crisp and within your budget. Or they were when I bought them.

I picked up a pair of Leupold BX3 Mojave10x50 in a pawnshop for about $125 couple of years ago.. Might check out the ones in your area to see what they have and you can always dicker with them.

The binos I wish I had back were some early 90's Steiner 7x50 whitetail.... focus from here to eternity. Best I ever owned.

I was at Costco Dallas the other day and saw that they had Leupold Yellowstone 10x42MM Binoculars for $180. Came with a harness and cleaning pen. I would have to thin there are few deals with a quality manufacturer better than that.

I don’t see any great need to go down to 8 power. I’ve been using 10 power binocs for maybe 50 years.

My nikon prostaff 7s have taken a beating but still have held up pretty well. I would buy them again for their price point.
