I’ve killed quite a few Nilgai and elk. I like elk personally, but it can be pretty gamey if not prepared properl. Nilgai is the closest wild game taste to beef in my opinion. Hands-down, it is the better tasting meat. Now, elk is way more fun to hunt.

We eat Elk all the time, never had a gamey piece. We do process our own and know game meat care after the kill. Can't speak for the Nilgai.

Only had nilgai from one bull, so can't speak from a lot of experience there. But I've been eating elk every year for 40+ years, and hands down it was better than that Texas swamp donkey! smile

I've only had elk.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I primarily ate Nilgai cows and they are really good. That calf I shot off her momma was special.

I LOVE Nilgai, but will take a cow elk over a Nilgai any day.

I once traded a bunch of fresh homemade wild pork sausage for some young cow elk meat, shot in some wheat fields in Wyoming... and I can't put words to how good that was. Was incredible.

I have had plenty of both, Elk wins hands down. Gemsbok and Scimitar Oryx are better than Nilgai as well.
