I'm taking off the factory scope mounts on a Savage AXIS XP BA .308 and replacing them with a Picatinny rail mount. Also changing scopes but the tube size is still the same..1 " . I am not going to use the rings that came with it either, so I need some advice/recommendations on what I should replace them with..What brand, style etc.Chime in please.

Check out the Weaver 4-hole tactical rings. Solid option and won't break the bank. Currently use them on many rifles.

Would this size be a Medium? If so, I found a good buy for $35 less S&H
pm if need be. I found a sight that shows height in 100ths but none in the above span.

I replaced my scope bases with a Picatinny rail on three rifles this year. The rails are about .33" in height (higher than the previous bases). So when choosing rings, that had to be taken into consideration. I chose Vortex Pro-Series and PMR Rings, Low Hight (.75"). That was enough for the scope bell to correctly clear the rifle barrel. I know I will get a lot of boo and hiss for choosing Vortex but I have had another set for a few years and they work great. I really like the Talley Tactical Rings but too $$ for now.... Also, here is a link that might help you... really explains what to consider in base and ring height so that what you get works as it should: Optics Camp

I ordered the Medium size rings. Most sizes were out of stock.
