We are capping the caliche with road base from Colorado materials. I am taking your advice on the width and blading down both sides because you are exactly right.

Got to change it up a little today and set up a deer blind for my customer. This place has some very good deer but in a years time there will be no more hunting.

I love this thread, except for the no hunting thing in a year. Brings back memories of getting our place. I love pushing cedar, making roads, everything that goes into making a place better than you found it. Great job it's looking good.

Very impressive new toy!!! Curious how much fuel are you burning a week running everything and how are you getting fuel to all your equipment?

The JD has a 400 gallon tank and we fill it up every 7 days on average. The D6 once a week. The wheel loader is brand new so don’t know. We have above ground tanks to refuel. The skid steers and backhoe vary but we can fill them up with fuel jugs.

That new toy looks BRAND NEW. My sister-in-laws father use to have an older version and I had him build a 1-1/2 acre pond on the place we used to own. That dang thing was awesome on moving dirt. Love watching this place come together.

Is all that gravel from digging in the ground? It would cost me six figures to buy that much gravel here in East Texas!!!!!

When I built my 4 1/2 acre pond, I put my burn pile in the middle of the pond and then left what didn't burn in the pond. It's a long line of stumps and partially burned trees that have created a home for my fish. I also dug holes in the bottom of the pond to create more contours. The biggest hole is 2x40 and 12 feet deeper then the bottom of the pond, which is 12 feet deep in that area. It's probably filled up with silt by now, which might of been a smart idea on my part just to deal with the incoming silt when it rains. The first few years, it took awhile to get good grass growing to slow down the silt.

When I stocked it, I put in both channel cats and LM Bass. In hindsite, I believe my bass would have done better if they where the only predator fish in there. We rarely fish for catfish, and when we have, they have been very aggressive when they hit. I have to use a deep sea pole with a treble hook so they don't break the line. The biggest channle cat so far is 13 pounds, and the biggest bass is 7 1/2 pounds. The pond filled up in 2006 and I stocked it the following year.

This is a great thread and I have learned some stuff!

Cibolo your work is looking good. Eddie those are some nice fish.

I have a little ol' 1/4 acre pond on my place with visions of doubling it to 1/2 acre. The land draining should easily support that. Any reason I could not rent an excavator for a few then use the FEL on my tractor to relocate the dug dirt, extend the levy?
