I do both, the result is the same. Nearly anybody hunting from a box, particularly over a feeder, is sniping.

I hunt deer until I snipe them!

And I snipe hunt occasionally when I have access to a good mud flat area.

I have aged and changed my game. Many years ago I did some serious hunting in the mud and cold. I needed meat and I wanted horns. I hunted from the ground and I hunted hard. Once, to hunt a place where I knew the deer to be, but where we had zero places to set up hunt or to sneak up on them (almost impossible), I had a new game plan. The leaves were down, so I built a big pile of leaves on the edge of this bean field, and I camo’d up and crawled under the leaf pile. I was prone, for the long shot I was looking for. Ants ate me up, but right at dusk the deer came out, but not where I had anticipated. They came out right where I was. I had 6 or 8 all around me, eating grass and acorns.I guess the only reason they didn’t step on me was that the leaf pile had nothing to eat. I had hooves 8” from my face. My options were to maybe stand up and get stomped or run over, or just lay there and hope I didn’t get stepped on. I just laid there for another hour, getting chewed by ants.

That was 40 years ago. Now I have heated blinds with windows and coffee and reclining chairs, and I’m very happy. Of course, I was happy back then too, hunting like Davy Crockett. Time passes. Things change. Hunt or snipe...call it what you will.

Call it URBAN WARFARE, and that would include snipers in boxes such as the late Chris Kyle! I wear camouflage, an occasionally a ghili suit, and am an acquaintance of Marcus Luttrell, but I can't rightfully call myself a sniper! Given that Texas is 96% private land, most of us do not have much choice but to "snipe" deer. A spot and stalk on some private lands can get a person killed really quick in some areas! Perhaps we can call hunting with a bow as sniping too, since we snipe over baited areas!

So yeah, I guess the majority of hunters in Texas could be classified as a SNIPER!!!

So if I am hunting rifle I am sniping or hunting. If I am hunting bow then I guess I am just hunting?

Cool story. When I started hunting in Michigan it was illegal to hunt from an elevated blind with a rifle. Your only choice was to be on the ground with the deer. Loved walking and stalking in the snow.

Looks like I snipe hunt as most of the places I’ve hunted on don’t allow stalk hunting. I have hunted before but generally when it’s just me on the ranch as I don’t wanna disturb anyone else’s hunt on those few ranches that allowed it.

Either way it got me out to enjoy the woods, so I was winning.

I go animal watching, and observing the forest, and do some nature photography, and stress relief, and while I’m doing that I sometimes shoot an animal.

60 and sniping deer. First time for everything. Wonder why it took this long. I PTL for the rocket surgeons who continually set me straight.

Neither. Ive gotten kinda old; 78. My front sight has gotten wiggly. Thought the barrel must be defective on my scoped rifles. Can't call it sniping anymore. So, I now sit pretty close to a feeder with a Winchester 30 30 and try to be still.

I have a safe full of guns that I really can't use to hunt.

Call it what you like, hunting or sniping or collecting meat. I've sniped plenty. Snuck up on many. Some just showed up as targets of opportunity.

Better question, what do you do? Now that you're in Texas, I recommend you stay with your "000" buck and stalk like you did in N. Carolina. Report back to us. Using your new rifle with a scope may not fit your criteria of fair chase hunting. Myself, I hunt my way.

Must be a Britt, even native Indians knew to hunt food sources and water holes and they where pretty good at it. Didn't shame them one bit to accept a firearm either. Sometimes you have to be smarter than the what your fn with.
