Maybe I read the National Firearms act wrong. I read iff a person sells the gun or magazines pays the $200. tax. No tax on what you own now.

While the NFA was enacted by Congress as an exercise of its authority to tax, the NFA had an underlying purpose unrelated to revenue collection. As the legislative history of the law discloses, its underlying purpose was to curtail, if not prohibit, transactions in NFA firearms. Congress found these firearms to pose a significant crime problem because of their frequent use in crime, particularly the gangland crimes of that era such as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. The $200 making and transfer taxes on most NFA firearms were considered quite severe and adequate to carry out Congress’ purpose to discourage or eliminate transactions in these firearms. The $200 tax has not changed since 1934.

Ironically, it was a crime problem the government itself more or less created by ushering in Prohibition.

I’ve heard tales that suppressors were added to the NFA because during the depression era, folks were hungry enough to poach cattle at night using suppressors. Granted, that is still a crime, but with what we are dealing with these days in the feral hog arena, I think it’s high time suppressors were removed from the NFA.

I heard something about him increasing the # of judges on the Court. You can bet they will be leftists.

Court Packing, that's why he never said yes or no if he would pack the courts

I'm not worried about this since my boat capsized with my entire gun safe onboard. Was trying to get it to a new cabin across the lake I bought. Shame really...

DeRico, with all of the migrants form California, etc, Texas won't be red much longer. Take a look at Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc.

Every time this is brought up, every politician and pundit supporting gun rights should be citing the numbers. Murder by rifle makes up a relatively small percentage of the instruments used to kill.

I wonder what "firearms, type not stated" represent?

It means "someone heard a gunshot" but they can find neither the evidence for one nor the bullet hole to forensically id the gun.

I really have no idea what that means.

It means there is a dead body with defects consistent with bullet wounds, but no witness to say "some dude with a rifle shot him." Lots of bullets can be fired from a rifle or pistol, so even if a slug is found in the body, a murder weapon wouldnt be assumed on a report unless recovered or identified by a witness.

Join the TNM [Texas Nationalist Movement] and help start the process of getting us a vote to secede. After today, it might be the only chance we have to avoid the madness.

Agree, but we also have to have the patience of our founding fathers. We CAN NOT start a revolution over perceived threats and actions. We need to have very concrete actions against us, and multiple, before we go down that path.

The founding fathers had many objectionable actions over many years for which they attempted redress but were unable due to a lack of representation in parliament and care from the throne. We have to remember any revolution needs to be seen by the outside world as just, otherwise any “new” govt would not be recognized by anyone and would he a failure. Esp given how quickly the world blamed trump for the “insurrection at the capitol” we have to remember the tide is against us so we need to have our “I’s” dotted and “T’s” crossed before we act.

I believe state and possibly even more so local (county) government will play a major role in how successful the new administration is with firearms legislation. The Fed does not have the bandwidth to enforce legislation without cooperation from state / local authorities. Hopefully the list of 2nd amendment sanctuary counties in Texas continues to grow.

perfectly said, the capitol riot was either a really bad screw up timing wise or someone timed it just right.

All sounds hopeful but my time on the fringes of politics as a lobbyist convinced me that most elected/appointed representatives/officials are border line whores.

I’ll exempt Ted Cruz from the above.
