We got a river house right outside Palacios and for awhile now we have not had any decent water pressure. It’s terrible when taking a shower or needing high pressure from hoses to clean the boat. Anyways we asked the city to come out and they basically told us they could not find anything wrong. None of the other other neighbors have the same issue. Is there anything l can check to troubleshoot the issue or should l be hounding the city to come back out and fix their problem? I would rather take care of it myself even if possible. Any suggestions you guys have on next steps would be greatly appreciated

What did the city say the pressure was when they tested it at the meter?
Man if I knew what Oxner knows I could throw away what I know

I’m not a plumber
But when your side comes off the city line they sometimes did and sometimes didn’t put a regulator there which feeds your side
It works like a gas regulator does
Let’s say it’s old and it most likely is they can fail and restrict flow
Check your water pressure w a gauge and then ask the city what the pressure is on their line.

Try hooking your hose near the house to a neighbors house.

Maybe a regulator problem?

We had the same problem when the city upgraded us to a “smart” meter. They only opened the valve about halfway. Took a couple of months to figure it out.
Good luck

Good luck I bet it’s either this, or a leak. Could be roots.

Ask the city for a pressure test at the meter. Best to start there and work toward the place.

Check the valve at the meter for full open. Check valve at the house for full open. Outside faucets run slow too?. Meter turning? Line plugged possible? Open all faucets full open at one time, creates higher differential pressure. May move the obstruction if there is one. See if the meter turns faster. Did the city make any repairs locally? All non invasive checks. Look for debris or discoloration on sinks and tubs. Shower heads plugged with scale, shell or general mung.?

As mentioned, first thing I would ckeck is a stop valve not fully open.
I have needed to turn water off at the meter in more than one home. Some meter stops arr 90 degree turn and some 180 degree turn. Meaning a a half turn counter clockwise is full open. If i remember correctly, these have an arrow on top of knob.
After that, kinked or smashed copper line under ground or galvanized pipes full of rust.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Thanks guys. The city never told me what the pressure registered at and only that there was not issue. Appreciate all the advice. Going to try a few of the things you guys recommend and then will be calling the city back but supervising this go around!

If they installed a new meter, they may have forgotten to remove the plastic bore plug and may have blown it into your supply line. Like others said above, open all of your faucets and see if you can flush out the line. Check for any valves on your side of the meter, just because the handle shows to be in the up/open position the gate may have come loose and fallen off causing a partial blockage( had a forum member with this problem after a water heater replacement). If you have any of these and are handy with a wrench, close the city valve in the meter box and remove the top works of your valves and check for broken parts. If the gate has come off, you can remove it and put the top works back on till you have time or get a plumber to replace the valve. I would get a fitting to thread onto an outside faucet, install a pressure gauge and check your static and flowing pressure. Good luck.

How long have you been there? Normal pressure previously?

Should be 80 lbs at the house. Nope Just depends on how much pressure they have in the area he lives, there is no set number, 80 would be good, I keep mine around 90 I have seen it from 50 to 120 all over the DFW area.........

In Mexico City it looks like most people have a holding tank, that gets filled at night, and they use a pump to up the pressure inside the house. I have a rain catch system, so God provides my water for free.

Do not let a pressure gauge at the house fool you. When the city replaced our meter they thought they had reopened the gate valve but the shaft on the valve was corroded in two, so the gate was just barely open enough to give us some flow. A pressure gauge was put on the house and we were at 80 pounds of pressure. The problem was when something was turned on the the pressure dropped quick, then when water was turned off again the pressure would slowly rise back to good numbers. I replaced the gate with a ball valve. Now all of the hoses and the tub worked great but everything in the house was still terribly slow. We assumed that debris got in the line when the meter or the valve was replaced, now all of the strainers and shower heads were plugged. We had more than one problem.
