A buddy of mine gave us a private tour at Caverns of Sonora. He operates a dozer for me and is one heck of a tour guide. I got over a lot fears and my son got to repel into the Devil’s Pit

That is one cool place. My Wife and I took the tour probably 20 years ago. It is simply amazing. I'm way too claustrophobic to attempt what your Son did. That freaks me out. I got locked in the trunk of a car when I was young so I'm still a little gun shy. Great pics, thanks for posting.

Love the caverns.

Spent a great deal of time growing up on a ranch farther down that road. Great country.

I hunted down there for years and every year said I’d go check the caverns out, but never did. Big regret. Maybe someday. Looks cool.

coolpics Great pics, sir. Never been there, but actually reminds me of Saltzburg, Austria. We took a tour down into the mountain there a couple years ago. Definitely found a new respect for claustrophobia and mine trains.

Cool story and pics. Imagine the first brave soul that explored it. No LED lights or modern climbing or repelling equipment. Hemp rope and carbide lights. Different kind of brave and tough back then.

That said, I’ll have to live vicariously through your son. No devil’s pit for me. If the devil wants me that bad, he’ll have to come and get me. Not making it easy on him.

Nope. Love caves, but not the tight cramped stuff. That’s my nightmares.

That looks like a good time.
I have been to many caverns all over the country, including some on private land. I have never made it to Sonora for some reason, I need to plan a trip there.
