A month ago my wife and I went to watch our daughter in the SunBelt Conference Volleyball Tournament around Gulf Shores, AL. We decided to make a vacation out of it and stayed on the beach. Did the mask thing since it was mandated at the arena. A dozen parents and grandparents got the Rona anyway. Everyone recovered, but it had me with a fever for 12 days. I lost a month of hunting right in prime time so the timing of it all really sucked... and it sucked worse for my pudelpointer Rosie. Last week she was finally able to get out to the park and swim after some mallards. There were a couple of Karens that were freaking out, thinking she was feral and about to starve. When we got home she had a nice scent point on a yard rabbit. Finally last Friday we left early for the lease. She sits in the stand with me and looks out the window every now and then. The handle on her vest makes it a lot easier to get her into our taller stands. Big hog came in and went down. It wasn't much of a track, but she did technically find it for me. She thinks she's a hog dog now. Sat AM we got a decent duck hunt in, my brother and I were able to scratch out limits of gaddies and wigeon with a lonely spoon. Got a couple of pics of the last wigeon of the day, which was part of a triple. Sat afternoon we got to another stand really early. She got to watch this young 9 pt for a while. He looks like a 7 pt, but on one side he has 3 pts on his brow. No hogs showed up so nothing went down. Sun AM we hit another pond. On the way we had another boar trot right in from of my ATV about 15 yards ahead of us. Pig escort all the way! Had another good hunt, a limit in 30 minutes, but no pics cuz it was cold and rainy and I was ready to get out. Hopefully she isn't mad at me any more.

All is well that ends well.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Dear LarryCopper: You have a particularly beautiful dog (pudelpointer, right?). She appears to be a terrific hunter. Congratulations! Still, in some of those wet-dog pictures, she does look a little like a Nacogdoches Meth House Mama strung out after a particularly explosive binge. Please be careful with the Karens. Next time, they might attempt an intervention.

Part two last weekend. Friday she got a dozen retrieves in. I more or less guided my nephew and a buddy of his on Saturday. Sunday it was just me and Rosie. She got a little gadwall juice on her face.
