Guess my 5 yo pointer gyp is done for the season. Looks like an ACL issue, have an appointment at the vet next Monday.

Have had two go down with ACL issues. They can come back and be athletic, Just 8-12 week rehab {with TPLO). The only bad outcome is possibility of other knee going within a year.

Sorry Chet...sucks losing one during the season. ACL tear has been my biggest fear owning a sportdog, I have often thought what I would do faced with that decision. Doing them both once (even the one that is good right now) always seemed like one of the better options...because it’s one recovery and to me the recovery is the hardest on both of you. They don’t understand why they can’t be anywhere but their kennel and a leash. One and done is what I think I’d do...but I also know when it comes to the leg ' cutting time it isn’t easy to stroke a check for both and have a “good” one done.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Got the radiologist report. Good news it’s not ACL rupture. Bad news it’s hip dysphasia.

Thanks Bobby. She seems extremely active since starting on anti inflammatory meds. I’m planning on heading to lease in a couple days, I’ll put her on the ground for a little while. That’s what makes her happy.

We just did our second TPLO rehab in four years. It sucks. We tried very hard to preserve the other one but playing some light fetch in the backyard he tore the other one in August. Had to wait until the end of September for the surgery. Just got cleared to have the run of the house, including stairs, before Christmas. Got the radiologist report. Good news it’s not ACL rupture. Bad news it’s hip dysphasia. [censored]. Sorry to hear that.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I have one that has had this issue for two years but up until now have been able to hunt her by keeping here on meloxicam daily. My best dog ever on blue's went on a couple of big runs last trip that did her in. She is done for the year. Can't say that I am much surprised because big driving dogs that really cover the ground put a lot of pressure on their running gear but for me it's been front ankle's until now. Those were always terminal injuries just hope this is not.
