Hey y’all,

I live in Celina and am looking for a professional trainer to work with me on a one on one basis. 7 month lab.
I don’t mind driving an hour or so to meet. I am enjoying the training process so far but realize I could use some professional help at this point. Evaluation of obedience and help with FF.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Per recommendation, I got hooked up with JC at Cripple Creek.

Thanks y’all.

I havnt messed the dog up yet, so I’m glad I’m making the right decision with JC. After talking to him on the phone I could tell he was a good guy.

The pup is probably ready for FF which I have never done. Figured I need to have a pro line me out. The dog is enthusiastically (understatement) marking and retrieving 100-120 yards off winger zingers but won’t deliver to hand. Drops it at my feet. He has nice obedience when one on one with me, but less then perfect with other distractions, guns, other dogs, dummies being launched, etc.

I don’t know how to get the remote sit combined with the whistle. If he is in the distance and I command sit, he will most of the time. However if I blow the single sit whistle tweet, he will return to my side and sit instead of sitting remotely. So, various things such as that and not having FF’d a dog brought me to the realization a pro could help tidy up some concepts. I have the time and desire to train the pup myself and it’s been going well enough, but I’m not so stubborn to see I am at a point that a pro could really help.

Have you taught the "here" whistle yet? Sounds like the dog does not fully understand the concept of the whistle. I always begin teaching the whistle sit with the dog walking at heel. While walking at heel with a slip lead, choke collar, pinch collar (if the dog has been properly collar conditioned you can begin this drill with an E-collar) walk the dog at heel, blow sit whistle, left up on lead (or momentary stimulation with E-collar) and verbally command sit. At this point don't worry about remote sit until you know the dog clearly understands the whistle sit command and sits reliably on ONLY the whistle while walking at heel. Then you can progress to working on the remote sit while off lead.
