On Monday night, Saturn and Jupiter will pass within 0.1 degrees of each other in our night sky creating a visual effect of a single "Christmas star". Here's a good article showing exactly how rare this is (Christmas Star). It's also cool that this is likely the same event that the magi saw causing them to journey to find Jesus. It looks like it's going to be cloudy down here in south Texas, but you guys up north should definitely step outside and check it out. It will be in the southwestern sky from sunset to 7:30pm. Here's a picture I took last night from my rooftop in the middle of San Antonio. You can actually see Jupiter's moons just to the upper left of it.

Neat picture, we have had clouds the last 3 nights but tonight looks to be clear. I will be out looking for sure.

Saturn isn't as near as bright here, too much light pollution. here it looks like a bright planet with a dim spec above it.

If you have a high power spotting scope on a tripod, you may be able to see Saturn's rings and you'll definitely be able to see Jupiter's moons.
