Shot this Thursday afternoon rattled him up.
He has been unofficially scored so thought I would show him off and see what numbers y’all came up with.
My only hint is that pictures cannot do him justice and yes low fence no breeding just native deer.

I get 108-111 down and 71-74 up. He looks bigger than my score though...just hard to tell beam and tine length from that one pic. Love the mass and browtines on that beautiful 8pt. Congrats cheers

You guys are good.... I was off hunting by myself and once I loaded him I thought he might go 165 but once I got back to camp and he was there with a number of really nice 150 class deer I realized how big he was.

This was done by Taxidermist/ Texas Big Game scorer.

Now to wait..... I asked him if I come by and visit them occasionally.

Before I saw you score card I guessed 165" to 170" but I missed the length of the main beams by a bunch. I missed the inside spread by 1.5" as well, he is a hoss for sure. Congratulations.

Wow. I saw your score before I thought about his score but I doubt I would of gotten over 170. Thats a deer you really need to see in person or at least more pics. Love to see more pics. I just cannot grasp an 8 that big. You implied you will visit the rack at your taxi. Almost any taxi will let you pick up the rack while they are waiting to need it. I wouldnt let it out of my sight. Also, Im sure we would all like to hear as much detail as you would give about the hunt etc. Theres was an 8 that I think was 160ish the other day and it got an enormous amount of press like it was a new world record and yours blows it away so worthy of a story..... Congratulations, bigtime!!

A little different angle that shows bases better.
As far as hunt details I was guiding that morning and finally got my hunter his deer (158 3/8 11 point) at 12:30 pm and we were heading back to camp for lunch. As we passed a sendero both of us saw the buck and I slammed on brakes grabbed my rifle and duck walked back to edge. He was 200 yards facing and looking at me. I couldn’t tell enough about him to shoot and he took off.
There was a blind down that way so I went and unlocked it so I could come back and slip in.
Had lunch and told the landowner I saw a potential deer and asked to go back and get a better look and try rattling him out. I had another hunter to guide who hadn’t arrived so took off got n blind at around 2:20.
Rattled nothing... rattled again nothing. Phone beeped said my hunter was there be back at camp at 3:30 so I said ok looked at my watch it was 2:50 time to rattle once more. Rattled leaned down to put down horns and when I look up he walks out all bowed up at 40 yards and stops and lets out a grunt/ wheeze. I got the rifle on him and counted 8 points looked to be a 160 class so within my “pay grade “ as we guests refer to deer we are allowed to kill.
I am not a paid guide just a friend of landowner and I help since I have intimate knowledge of ranch. This is NOT a ranch that folks pay to hunt...
only friends and family are allowed.
Anyway just as I am taking aim the buck started walking slowly looking for other deer and my phone started ringing so I shot him and answered the phone. It was a customer we talked a minute and I climbed down walked over and saw his horns in the edge of the brush. When I shot him he almost face planted but regained his feet and made to brush.
I was rushed so loaded him and took off back to camp to get my hunter.
When I got back that night I asked the ranch hand how much he weighed...
He said 220lbs.... then said well really we are not sure as scales only go to 220 and they bottomed out. eek2

I shot him with my Horizon Switch barrel with the 6.5 PRC shooting 135gr Berger Classic. I actually shot a couple more does and a hog but shot them with a 1942 03a3 open sights 30-06 which was fun.

First glance I could tell he is bigger than the largest 8pt I have ever held that scored 167 over 6 months after he was taken.

Great buck, congrats

Excellent buck, D!

I've never even seen an 8 come close to that.

Good job!

I cant get used to just how big that buck is. Without checking BC record books I would think hes right up there with the biggest 8 pt ever killed. I really appreciate the extra pics and that last one helps give some perspective. You really need a person in the pic thats beside the horns and not so far behind. You really missed your chance taking quality pics when he was fresh killed. What you posted were decent quality image but not having the deers body posed differently really took away from the overall look at some perspective of the bucks size. Please dont think Im trying to be critical but a buck that size is literally world class for an 8 point and if you wanted the publicity I would think any magazine, newspaper, etc would love to do a story and they would want better pics. Congratulations again on a very well deserved giant buck.
