I been having pictures of dogs coming to our feeders for several months I found out who’s dogs they were and contacted them they said they would pen the dogs up well 2 weeks later the dogs are back
I like dogs a lot and I want to be a good neighbor but we spend a lot of money as everyone knows with stands feeders cameras feed plus the 4 hr drive it takes to get out there one way
What would some of y’all do if diplomacy doesn’t work

Catch them and then call neighbor and tell him you have his dogs and to come get them!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

If it continues you will have a choice to make and you know what it is. Dogs at the feeder and deer don't mix.

Neighbor's dogs were coming over the fence killing all sorts of stuff, many times. They were also chasing livestock, and I was afraid I'd find a dead calf... given the willingness for the dogs to kill wildlife. They killed 3 fawns, an armadillo, and bit a calf before momma got after them.

2 pit bulls.

I followed them directly to his house after catching them.

Had a talk with him, and explained the situation, and was just giving him a heads up that dogs that chase livestock and kill things on other people's land might not come home in ranch country.

He got mad at me. Beyond that, a few months later, I had my dogs at the end of the drive checking mail. My dogs were on the side of the road, not in it... And that guy swerved his pickup, trying to run over one of my dogs. mad

It's probably lucky for both of us he didn't.

He's moved since then.

Lesson learned: Do what you have to do, and keep it to yourself.

I’ve had mixed experiences in talking to dog owners. One guy’s dogs never showed up on my place again. Another guy said that his dogs ran loose in pack and he was going to leave it like that. Sooooooo.....

Because I lease, I do my best not to create any issues between the landowner and his neighbors. I will gladly report to him any dogs that I see on his property but any action he feels is necessary is up to him. If his actions create any problems with his neighbors then they are on him and not me. I don't value deer meat and antlers enough to hide behind lies or get caught up in unnecessary legal battles over man's best friend.

I own the property so I do want to get along and be a good neighbor I have lots of neighbors at home and I understand that some people just do not want to get along I had the same problem with my dogs going on to a good neighbors property and he usually shoots dogs on site because of the black buck he raises he let me know and I promptly chained my dogs
The dog owner did tell me it would not happen again but that’s been said before

These threads always amaze me....this issue is best left unsaid. In other words take care of business and never miss a good opportunity to keep the pie hole shut about it.

Well - I wouldn't shoot them at this point since you have established that A. you know who's dogs they are B. you've just seen them on a camera at a feeder and not harassing livestock C. you posted it on a public forum.

Shooting your neighbors dogs over wildlife will not end well for you in court - especially with this post.

Some things are better left unsaid and just handled. Humanely and quickly.

you're correct

your piehole kept shut comment should be standard operating procedures
for the new and old to this game

he's unsure of himself, he need opinions so he can sift through

there's an implied rule in the country and especially for folks with livestocks like me

dogs messing with livestocks = dead dogs

The county sheriff / police are landowner friendly

Here's how you know you have good neighbor

Neighbor said to me "if my dog(s) ever get over to your place, you can shoot it(them) "

no harsh feelings

I’m old and have hunted and raised cattle all my life we have seen the dogs and did not shoot them
If they are just trespassing and not caught killing anything this day and time with tracking collars if you don’t catch them red handed killing something it could be bad like somebody’s cattle or my cattle crossing the fence I don’t know the laws that well about dogs but you just can’t shoot somebody’s cow for crossing the fence
I was just wanting opinions and I appreciate all of them
I have had dogs kill 3 of my calves last year
We didn’t have a gun with us when we caught them but knew who’s dogs they were he was informed what would happen if they were caught again and so far it’s been taken care of

Pictures, take them and document the dogs on your place then call animal control or the sheriff. Does your county have dogs at large ordinance ?

I’m had hell with stray dogs and their owners in the past, with that said the laws have since changed slightly. My advice is know the laws incase there is an issue.

It can be as much of an open or closed case as you make it. Cross T’s dot I’s

A lot depends to me. Where is the property, how big is the property your hunting, how far from the house are you hunting. Are the dogs there often/daily and a problem? or do you get a picture or two of them in a months time?

Personally would never ever talk to the owner. If there is ever a problem or a missing dog you are the suspect. Sometimes dogs that run loose do not come home.

take care of him and send your neighbor a shoulder mount grin

Totally joking.

I’ll have to check into that I know what a lot of people would have done in this situation and i respect all replies believe me I do not like this at all but like I said I have always tried to be a good neighbor then go on from there
I may have to do something different besides contacting the neighbor I’m not going to shoot them

Agh, the dog war's...
We lived on a dead end road, out in a pasture.
People would turn thar dogs loose (drop them off & leave em), & they would end up @ our place as pets..
Some house dogs others put on leash & chain...
Land sold across road, & a neighbor would find dogs & let them run loose..
Thar was cattle on our place, dogs chased cattle, tried talking ta person, he said reason he moved ta country, ta let dogs roam.... Any ways fued started with in-laws & him...
He did it on purpose... Had many dogs on trail cam's even interrupted hunts...
bang not the dogs fault, cant shoot one, confused2 they did keep hogs moving... See em on cam's, dogs chased em off, still took several hogs though...
cheers agree do your best ta try work it out...
In-law had warned person, several times, ne dog was chasing cows, got shot, supposedly neighbor went shot in-laws dog on chain...
i had a dog took in, bulldog type. Neck size big as head, it learned, ta back out of collar. So got type goes around front legs also, my bad, bang didnt have it tight enough... found it dead by mailbox, shot, the dog wars, took it behind house buried it. Sometimes nothen ya can do... Again not dogs fault...

Best wish's sir...
