Has anyone used the SSA ammo since it was taken over by Nosler? I was wondering if you noticed any difference. I used SSA 6.8 ammo for years and was very satisfied with its performance.
Thanks

The SSA brass is some of the best brass I have used. Their ammo, I have no knowledge on.

I have a few hundred SSA 7.62x51 168 gr Sierra OTM and they're HOT in my AR308. I tried reloading the brass and the primer pockets were loose from the initial firing. I think I chrono'd them but don't remember the FPS. I have not fired them from a bolt action.

SSA made some great ammo and had the best brass on the market in the 6.8 SPC. Their ammo was loaded hotter than any other commercial ammo also. When Nosler bought them out, they totally f'd up the brass to become the worse available. Lots of split necks and shoulders on the first firing and a considerable lower powder capacity than the original SSA. You could tell the difference in the head stamp. If you have some of the pre-Nosler brass, it is outstanding, post sale....not so much. BTW, it seems like Nosler has worked out some of the kinks with the brass, but it still is some of the least favorable around. Nosler has down-loaded the ammo considerable and is one of the weakest factory loads available and they dropped several of the desirable loads that SSA had introduced.

SSA under Nosler doesn't offer much. Hornady and Federal make good ammo for the 6.8. I bought a bunch of the S&B PTS ammo and it's been excellent.

How can you tell the difference between the older brass and the newer brass? The 308 Win SSA brass I have is a year or two old, and is very good stuff. I'm saving a few for myself. I have not seen the newer stuff. Thanks!

I use SSA 110 accubonds and they are awesome. Keep an eye on Nosler's website as they will periodically put them on sale.

Nosler bought SSA in 2013 so I would bet you 308 brass is Nosler. I have never seen SSA 308 brass, only 6.8.

The "old" 6.8 SSA brass has like arc marks between the SSA stamp and the 6.8 mark. Check the 6.8 forum for specifics.

I've used the SSA in 6.8 and it did everything I asked it to do...and I wouldn'thesitate to use it again. I roll my own these days, so I have no need to pay ridiculous prices today's ammo is commanding.
