https://thecmp.org/cmp-set-to-open-second-round-of-1911-pistol-orders-in-early-2021/

I was able to get in on the first round and have no regrets.

After this election, there may never be another.

I'm kinda ignorant to this kinda stuff. Does this mean this will be a legit, US military purchased m1911?

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

In my case, I was glad to be able to acquire one for personal reasons.

My two grandfathers served in WWI and my step-grandfather served in WWII.
My father served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam.
I also served during the Vietnam era.

In all that time, the service sidearm was the M1911.
That weapon is a durable reminder of our family's service.

This is my third purchase from the CMP.
In 1994, I purchased an M1 Garand from the DCM.
Bill Clinton was sawing Garands in half as fast as he could.
But the republican congress turned the DCM into the CMP
taking it out of his hands and saving the Garands.

When M1 Carbines became available from the CMP
I was able to get one and gave it to my father.
On his first tour in Vietnam as an advisor in 1962,
that is what he carried.

Yes my friends, there are finer firearms available at lower prices,
but the military heritage is priceless.

One requirement is membership in a CMP affiliated organization.
In other words, join the Texas State Rifle Association, https://tsra.com/

If you have an LTC, that will satisfy the marksmanship or other firearms related activity requirement.

For details and other requirements and options, check the instructions in the order form.

Military service is not required.

I just sent off my packet for my first garand purchase yesterday! MadMac is right, it's really not that bad. I joined the Garand Collectors Association myself, but TSRA and any number of other organizations count for the membership.

Personally, I'll leave the 1911s for someone else who will appreciate the history.

Guys.. word to the wise. Get on this before it's too late. I've been a customer of the CMP for 15 years and it's just a matter of time before they run out of all their firearms. The funds go towards a great cause.

On the M1911's... I too was fortunate in the first round. After watching the time it took for the first round to get shipped out, many thought there would be no second round.

The eligibility requirements are no big deal. Just keep in mind, that the rifle (Garand / Carbine / bolt actions / etc) and the 1911 organizations are separate meaning you have to send in all requirements for the 1911 program even if you are a previous customer.

Besides... you know you are getting something authentic and checked over by a competent US expert and not getting a gun show "special".

This round of 1911 purchases is supposed to be by random drawing from the applications received. Limit 1 per customer, for life. I'm submitting my application on Jan 4th and hoping for the best, as this would be a really cool piece to go with my WW2 rifles.

Absolutely. In the first round, 8,000 pistols were available. 17,000 applications were received.
An email informed me that mine was randomly selected in the 4,000 range and to standby.
When the phone call came, it was like Christmas morning.
Service grade pistols were still available and I did not hesitate.

Good luck, Sir.

First round was random also... which was nice as it eliminated the mad rush to get your application there the day it opened up and not a day sooner. On the Garand (Win and IHC) and Carbine releases you were sending it to get there as it was first come first serve.

Yes for life... for now. It would be nice if it lasted long enough for a second as I have three boys and only on CMP 1911 to pass down.

Good luck to you guys!
