Looking at an Athlon Midas BTR 4.5-27x50 or a Vortex ($400 price range).

Anyone with experience with Athlon versus another scope in the $400 range.

If you don't mind MOA, this is a helluva deal.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018726884?pid=572346

Not sure what features you want or the main use of the scope.

Primary focus is hunting. Feeders around 100 yards and then some coyote hunting and plinking.

I think the 4.5-27 is a little to high on magnification. I would probably look at the Midas 2.5-15 for hunting purposes. 15 power can easily get you to 800-900 yards for target shooting.

I was looking at the Midas but not real familiar with athlon and if it was worth the $500.

I have one of the 2.5-15 and it is a nice solid setup. Good scope. Haven’t had any issues with it.

I assume 6.5g is grendel. I like the Grendel and would tend to agree lower magnification maybe more useful overall unless this is supposed to be some sort of long range plinker. Right now I uses a 5-25 for ammo testing but eventually it will more permanently wear a 2.5-10x scope. I'm a huge fan of this power range.

I have an Athlon Midas 2.5-15 scope. Good illuminated reticle and good glass, though I can’t say “better than” or “worse than” other scopes. I can say that it’s good in dim light and the illumination isn’t too bright to be useful. It tracks well so far. I like it a lot. Plenty of scope for the money. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

Don’t go MOA. MIL is so much more intuitive and math on FR fly is easier. Trust me Get a 3-15 or 4-16 FFP MIL/MIL. I let a buddy try my Burris XTR II 3-15 and he’s now writing me a check because he won’t take it off. I find the XTR II used In good shape all the time for 450-600 same with the Sig Tango 4 4-16 and the Weaver Tactical 3-15 for less than $500. Weaver has mildot but if staying inside 800 it’s still very quick and effective. Imo the weaver is the best bang for the buck it makes any VX3 look like sh!t. I really like Athlon i have several right now but had a terrible experience with Midas and Midas Tac. I like the Aeries and Cronus.

If you want to second focal plane look at tract optics. If I was to ever buy another second focal plane scope that is the only scope company I would buy from.

I would look at this for what your want to do. I have the a 4-16 model and a 6-24 model. PA is a Texas company and the GLX series are made in Philippines. The glass is excellent, the turrets are steel on steel they have a great thumb lock to keep them from getting bumped. They also have illumination that will shut off when no movement is detected in 3 minutes. The turrets are MIL if you want to dial but the ACSS reticle will allow you to hold. It's calibrated to 308/556 but can easily work for the 6.5 Grendel out to 500 yards by adjusting how you zero.

They are having a blem sale on they website.

Ended up with an Athlon Ares 2.5-15x50, got a smoking deal on it. Thanks for the input.
