Just picked up a 2004 Mule 3000 2wd model and had the following questions:

• What’s the biggest tire size for stock ride?
• Has anyone put a lift on one and which kit?
• Difficulty of install?
• Does someone have a straightforward answer how to take off governor? It came from work and I was told was limited to 25mph top end and I have read they can go 30+
• Anything to keep an eye on?

All I got is that the neighbor’s Mule, which was older than yours, had cooling problems near the end of its life and it was very tough to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Other than that, with practically no maintenance at all, it ran for 10 or more years. When Kawasaki said they couldn’t save it without massive expense, he got another one.

install a 2 inch lift and put bigger tires... you will get a few more mph with bigger tires...

If it's anything like the old 3010 trans-mule i had, a 2" lift fit 25" tires pretty well.

There are two governor springs for the 620 engines.
PN 39129-1027 is the black 2600 RPM spring approximately 26 MPH with stock size tires.
PN 39129-1011 is the yellow (kinda golden color, not yellow) 3600 RPM spring approximately 36 MPH with stock size tires.

You can get the springs on ebay for 12-15 bux delivered.

Stock size rear tires are 23x11x10

Hope that helps.

Thanks Vern! the engine I have is 617. I’ll do more research.

Right now my GPS has me topping out at 15mph!

A 2004 3000 should have a KAF620 engine and is actually 617CCs.

When you raise the bed, does the top of engine look like this pic from service manual?
If so, follow those instructions to remove the black cover and the spring on top of the assembly is the governor spring.
If it is black, it's a low RPM spring. If it's golden color, it's high RPM spring.

Hope that helps.
