They take their share one way or the other LOL

Hunter shoots duck, but giant gator claims prize
Quote
A Florida hunter has captured footage of a giant alligator devouring a duck he or his partner had just shot. “It’s not just fishing, Florida duck hunting has a tax man, too!” Cass Couey wrote on Facebook.

In S. Louisiana, in the marsh, it is not uncommon for a large gar to eat a duck that is floating on the water.

I would make sure my buddy would be the one wading out to pick up decoys!

A few years ago we had a confirmed mountain lion on our lease for a little while. My brother and I were hunting about a mile apart in the evening, light to zero winds. Right at dusk we both heard it - and we both swore it had to be less than 100 yards away from our stands LOL. It was LOUD.

I imagine the pucker factor picking up dekes would be about the same as that night walking back to my ATV.

Dang, that's a lot of boot hide swimming out there. I'd need a bigger boat before I picked up the decoys.

I walked out into my back yard one night this fall and heard one that couldn't have been more than 50 yards away.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Are you supposed to count it against your bag limit?

Yes, and you need to make a reasonable effort to retrieve those birds. Put that ol boy in a headlock, reach in and get those birds back.

Yep. My first duck hunt in Louisiana I lost 2 teal to a gator. Was no where near as big as the one in the video, but big enough to steel my 2 teal.

You guys have any idea how many gators are in our area lakes, especially a little east of Dallas ? I was crappie fishing last spring and saw 2 and heard 4 others just in a 75 acre cove.

There is a defense to prosecution here. I would contend the duck, although motionless was still alive. Therefore when the gator ate it, it actually killed the bird, so it would be a strike againt the gator, not the hunter. Reasonable doubt!
