Was fearing this day would happen. In Argyle we have a tame rio grande turkey that was the town mascot. Has been for 5 years. Would roam our downtown streets and fearlessly interact with people and cars. Big hit with the kids and had become a local attraction of sorts. Yesterday some idiot saw him crossing the street, stopped his car, caught him by hand, wrung his neck and threw in the back seat and drove away. Traumatized the families that saw it, and has our whole town in an uproar. The entire incident including the license plate was caught on security cams. Argyle police located the guy and turned the evidence over to the Game Warden to deal with. Sorry situation for sure. I know it’s turkey season, but killing a pet with your bare hands? Really dude? It made the news last night on ABC.

Aside from it being the town’s mascot, that’s just absurd. Who sees what looks like a wild turkey on the side of the road and jumps out to strangle it and throw it in the car? No way I’d try to approach a wild turkey like that. He had to know the backstory of this turkey and knew it was tame, right? Or is he just that big of an idiot.

Nobody received a Christmas Turkey donation did they?

I wonder if he clipped the bird, got out and stopped the pain.

Possibly? But from the eye witness accounts it didn't seem like that happened. And if the security video showed that the bird had already been hit or injured I wouldn't think Argyle PD would have took the time to do a full investigation and track the guy down, nor turn it over to the Game Warden.

UPDATE From the Argyle PD FB Page. Maybe this guy will make an episode of Lone Star Law? -

**Update** As a result of our investigation, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was able to identify the individual who killed our town turkey and charge him with several offenses. This individual will also be required to pay restitution.
Also, we are aware that some have suggested releasing a new turkey in town. While we too would love to see a town turkey again, we learned that it is illegal to release a turkey into the town without first gaining permission from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Is that true? I haven't looked but does the handbook say you can't kill one with your hands?

Either way, it is pretty sad.
