I have gotten a couple of these new stand and fill feeders. Love them! smile

But on my brother's ranch, when he switched to the lower feeders, he brought up a valid concern...

He's worried that people shooting deer or hogs around the feeder will shoot the feeder itself. slinger

I told him to just make sure his guests are aware of the height...

Here's one of mine.

Have any of you had anyone shoot the feeder? Just curious.

Hello, have your brother tell his "people" not to shoot the feeders.

That's what I told him to tell his hunters.

But city slicker hunters can be full of surprises. wink

We put 10 or 11 of Ramball's 1000 pound stand and fill feeders on our lease...we made a bet on who would shoot theirs first. rofl One of the guys' kids run a bullet through a leg the first season but that's the only one that's been shot thus far and we are on the 2nd season. So far so good.

It's definitely a concern...tell him to post prices of the feeders if a bullet is run through them and those city slickers will tone down the feeder shooting grin

Not worried about it. Nothing some JB weld and paint can't fix if an accident were to happen (excluding mechanism hits)

The only time I've ever hit a feeder leg was with an arrow. That was right after I hit a strand of barb wire and right before I hit a scrawny mesquite limb. That big boar hog never knew how lucky he was.

I shot a raccoon off a feeder leg with a .22 mag a few years ago. He fell and I left a perfect round hole (looks drilled) through the leg.

I have shot a feeder leg, but not a feeder. We had several feeders with a hole in a leg or two. Depends on what I am shooting at and how bad I want it dead, if the feeder is behind it, the feeder may be a casualty of war.

I shot a squirrel right though the head. Bullet dented the spinner plate behind him. banana

Hard tor me to believe but ive never shot a deer at a feeder, much less shot the feeder. However I can see it happening on a stand and fill. When stand and fill first came out I wondered about the feeder blocking view for a shot or blocking a potential photo shot or game camera shots. I think all those are valid concerns but they sure are easier to fill. All about tradeoffs. I did have a bow hunter friend explain they like them cause it gives you a chance to draw a bow while they are behind the feeder.

I shot my game camera once. It never occurred to me that the deer was standing in front of it. I was shooting from an elevated position, the bullet caught the top of the front shoulder and redirected severely back up and out and right into my camera. Deer was DRT and a lot of bone was found in the heart and lungs.

I've let a few other people hunt my stand area w/a stand & fill feeder I built about 70yds. away. I was moving it the other day & saw somebody had shot it! It was about 1" below the control box. IDK who did it or when or if they even realized they hit it. There's been 1 pig & 1 coyote killed off that feeder, except for what I've killed. It was probably 1 of those 2.

They are easy to fill, but so are the feeders we build and they are up high on 15' legs. Barrels are run up & down with a cordless drill. Open view and they sling corn a long ways.

Just this day replaced the last of my combo feeders with 600 pound Lamco low & throw. Will add a Tx Hunter protein feeder. Not only obtains much more visibility, the new feeder evenly dispersed the corn throughout the entire 46 by 56 pen. Looking at the pen right now, the increased sight lines tell it’s worth it. I imagine it happens more than we realize. wink

Had a couple of buddies shoot their electronic caller... One with a shotgun, which is understandable. And one with a rifle. grin

Skinner, I think you’re right about the feeder being out of the way but, it’s nice to be able to put 1k lb’s in a feeder and not worry about it for a while. The Lamco feeder I have will sling the corn a long way being a 12v. Just like previously said, it’s give and take for these feeders.

Just add a really steep trophy fee for killing the feeder.

Does that mean you need that old, out-of-date combo feeder hauled off? grin
