Thankfully, we've never gotten rid of our old desktop computer that runs the old Windows XP operating system. It's a good thing too because I discovered our old Sony 8mm camcorder doesn't support Microsoft's newer operating systems. Granted, you might find a third-party driver for such things, but third-party software always comes with a bit of taking chances. I've got a lot of 8mm tapes to go through and capture the video that I want to transfer to digital files, but at least keeping the old tower pc will allow me to do it. Yes, I could just send the 8mm tapes off and pay someone to do it for me, but that would mean transferring everything that appears on each 8mm tape. By doing it myself, I can transfer only the footage that I want to keep.
Ain't technology great, even when it's out of date?

That's actually what prompted me to start this effort. I recently shared a brief clip of my folks with my siblings that I transferred some time ago and they asked me if I had more to share. Now it's just a matter of going through hours of tape to see what I can find and capture with Window's Movie Maker.

My older brother started going through my parents video stash on Thanksgiving as well. I was out of town so I missed it but he described some I don’t remember at all. These are all VHS and mini vhs

I've got an Apple "Newton" from about 1994ish That was basically an Ipad. I'm hopeful it will be worth something someday....
