'Had a picture of a hard-horned, wonky axis at the windmill water trough a while back. His right horn went 90º out to the right. I was sitting in a blind on my north property line last night, watching (south) whitetails at the feeder, when these guys, one small axis doe, a couple of bigger bucks that were just starting to grow their horns back, and this guy came over the fence from the north. I shot him at 120+, but it wasn't spot-on. Long story short, twenty minutes and two rounds later, he was still...and dead. He'd apparently SPLIT the top of his skull fighting and that's what made his right antler grow straight out to the right. Nice kill and nice rifle. What caliber? .280. It's too hard sometimes to close the bolt on a live round and I've had it worked on once already. Always goes "bang" though. . Thanks fellas!
