I’m building a little hobby forge.

Everybody says to get the biggest anvil you can afford. I would like to know what anvil and stand y’all are using, because y’all obviously know what you’re doing.

My current choice of anvil is the Rigid 275#, but I won’t be able to lift that. Cliff Carroll’s Anvil Stump is the stand I like.

TIA

When I had a forge and anvil, the Anvil was an old Hay Budden that weighed around 215 pounds. I had it sitting on big stump from a Mulberry tree. My shoulders are just too worn out to be swinging a big ole hammer against hot steel so I sold the hole set up.

I've had mine so long I forget where I bought it and how much it weighs, but I can't lift it. I forge very little theses days, my neighbors don't appreciate the pounding. I use mine daily for various things, mostly to stamped my makers mark on my blades. I wish I could help you. If you ever want need some steel cable for cable Damascus, I have plenty of it, just come and get it. I have several hundred pounds left; free to anyone that wants it.

Love to try cable Damascus but don’t have a mig welder to tie up the ends.

Maybe look on Craigslist before shelling out that kind of money.

That’s the anvil I want. It has features I like and it’s heavy enough to do most any small job.

I’ll check CL but don’t usually enjoy the experience.

How do you make those beautiful blades without forge and anvil? I think I’m missing something.

I started with a hay budden that was about 125. Now i have a Nimba centurion. Both used the same stand, which was 4x4s screwed together. I wouldnt look for anything under 100lbs for bladesmithing

You might try Texas Farrier Supply. They have stores in Weatherford and Kennedale.
