Looking for some input from the Forum. Looking at hooking Dad up with a hunt in 2021. He has always been a whitetail hunter and rarely shows interest in any other game species other than maybe a Muley or Elk. He as hunted the same lease in Willow City for 30 years. Has killed a few trophies for Central TX (140). Hunted a lease across the border in Acuna for 3 years. Was able to tag a nice 160 11pt with double throat patch. He is not big on it but has been taken on several canned hunts over the years from other business partners. 200+ whitetail in OK, black buck, axis, fallow. Has shot a few 28 inch free range aoudad on Willow City lease.
Question to you guys. What hunts have you been on that you would recommend? When and where did you go? All of your help is appreciated, Thank You

If he is a deer guy I would look into a good Muley Hunt.
A true west Texas aoudad Hunt is also a great time but if he has shot a few he may be out.
As mentioned a Newfie moose hunt has a good success rate and it’s definitely a different Hunt. Add in bear to that as well.
Elk are fun but the success rates go down, although I have friends that hunt the Mescalero reservation outside Cloudcroft and take nice bulls every year, but there is a waiting list.
If he is still spry a mountain goat hunt would be good.
Argentina for red stag is another surprisingly affordable hunt
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

What is your father's age, health, mobility status, etc? Dad is in fairly good health. Pushing 60 but still works everyday. Can hang with me on the lease throwing 50# bags of protein or corn for the weekend but I can tell he gets beat... he would never tell me. Kind of leaning towards a good muley hunt. I'll have to dig a little to see if he would be into a bear hunt. Definitely a deer guy. He used to live and breathe it 24/7 like myself but now has several grandkids to share the experience with. Looking to give him a gift that he deserves!

I would NOT consider anything in Canada, BC, NWT or Yukon area for 2021. IMO there is zero to little chance the PM opens the borders within the next year. He has mentioned he is waiting on a vaccine and that vaccine appears to have to be a Canadian developed one not any of the ones currently available. Having said that, you are likely too late in the game for an Alaskan hunt and most are booked by now. Might be able to find a cancellation hunt but that can have its pros and cons. And having said that, many hunts for 2021 no matter the state it’s in are possibly booked as well. Definitely will have more options for 2022, but will need to dig a little harder for 2021 hunt availability. Your fathers mobility sounds like he could handle most any hunt. How much are you wanting to spend would be the last question that needs to be answered as that will steer your recommendations in certain directions. Regardless of cost, a nice Mexico mule deer hunt or a North Northwest/Caostal cast and blast for black bear would be cool and fairly inexpensive.

Forgot to add in a trip to Africa.
Was not even on my radar but I went and had the time of my life. Shot 8 animals for the price of an Alaskan moose hunt.
South Africa and Namibia are running some great specials right now

Man the possibilities are endless. Personally I love hunting African game and it’s quite reasonable all things considered. New Zealand is an awesome experience, but kinda pricey. One on my list is muskox and caribou in Greenland. Alaska also has tons of awesome hunts.

Red Stag/Fallow hunt in New Zealand would be my true dream hunt followed by a big mule deer and third would be for a trophy elk.

I'm 68 and for me I think it would be caribou. I have always imagined it as experiencing the true wild outdoors in very wild country, hunting native game that seems exotic. Still close enough to deer to maybe appeal to him. The prep, travel, going long one more time. Last great adventure. Make him feel young, wild and free again.

Texas mulie hunt. Book with an outfitter under MLD and hunt the West Texas mountains during the rut. Great change of pace for a Texas whitetail guy, and he can use the same license he buys every year. It's a very manageable drive. They tend to be pricey, but to me you make up for it somewhat with the convenience factors.

I would think Mulie out west, then Nilgai in South Texas.
My hunting partner and I were looking for a cool hunt to book, and it kept coming down to value vs. spend. A really good guided hunt for mulie is EXPENSIVE, to the point where I'd frankly rather go to Namibia and shoot 8 animals in a cool, once-in-a-lifetime setting than shooting a mule deer, as cool as that would be.

A good elk hunt in conditions that don't require me to be in triathlon level condition. 20+ years ago, I'd accept the challenge of humping out meat for a few miles. Not so much these days.
