I see that gaining popularity with the lower price of night vision.

Many of you guys hunt hogs or coyotes at night using night vision?

Personally, I have a Wraith setup on two rifles.

Would love to see thermal become more affordable. It is from what it was a few years back, but not affordable enough to sell my DNV units yet.

I'm also more of a part-time warrior. I don't handle staying out all night, then functioning well the next day, as well as I used to. sleep

You guys get after it pretty hard?

In East Texas I have a camper stand setup with a feeder for night hog hunting. It has solar and batteries and blackout screens on my windows so I can watch TV at night. And a bed behind the shooting bench so I can sleep well until the hogs show. I'm using Murs driveway sensors on both the feeder and a pig pipe so lights at the feeder are no longer needed. I dedicated a rifle setup for this stand using sightmark night vision on a 375 winchester. There is a usb port on the shooting bench, so I don't have to worry about running batteries down on the scope. Night hog hunting my way, I usually come home more rested than if I had been at home.

John, I thought about that!

Put a new feeder at the back of the ranch and built a blind big enough to accommodate a cot, etc. cowboy

I have one feeding area about 100 yards from my carport at the guest house. I'm over there quite a bit, and look for hogs. If there are some, I fire up the night vision, and get over the hood of my pickup to shoot them.

I've gotten to where I wait for them to line up, and often kill two with one shot. Because as brushy as it is, one shot's all you;ll get in most cases.

Here's the last time I doubled. Very short video.

My boys come and hunt hogs at night. I have 4 of the cheap ‘walkway’ solar lights wired to the t-posts around my feeded. They do a good job of illuminating the feeder

Mostly at night with DNV I've had for 5+ years.
I have a 4x8 box blind with carpet on floor and up walls that is insulated pretty well.
I've been known to catch a few ZZZZs on the floor a few times.

Have only seen a few pigs during daylight hours and it's been quite a few years since I shot one in daylight.

Cheers,

That's something I've noticed as well.

Couple years ago, I used to kill way more pigs in the daytime. They weren't too shy.

Now, they are by and large nocturnal. Very rarely even catch them on game camera in daylight... And I run lots of game cameras.

Basically I night hunt from the front seat of my white Chevy pickup.
Over bait sites or trails. I have motion detectors out to wake me
when something shows' up be it coon, deer or the intended target.
With the window rolled down, I recline in the drivers seat with the target
site about 75-100 yards away, line of sight over the outside mirror, (used
as a rest occasionally),. I then snooze or play solitaire, (no cell service).
I usually have the intended target patterned as well as possible as to time
of night, and I wait. Beats the heck out of watching tv. Photons sure are nice!
The only thing predictable about a hog is that its unpredictable.

I guess my experiences are about the same as the others. I'm always a bit surprised when I manage to shoot a hog in daylight.

Yeah, I hunt them at night or right at dusk. Had a red motion light set up at feeder, but some lowlife stole it. I use NV now. Would love to see thermals get to an affordable price.

I've been hunting at night almost exclusively for the last few years using thermal. Started out with nothing but moonlight then went to light on rifle then I2 NV, now thermal.

Pretty much the same story here. There's no doubt thermal is better, although it's more expensive. Having a hand held thermal scanner is a nice luxury, even if mine is an old, outdated, zero magnification model.

About any serious hog hunter will do some night hunting. I keep traps out, but when I'm bored I go out and sit for a few hours now and then at night. I keep lights around my feeders, so I only need to use the night vision to shoot one when they come in.....don't need to keep looking the area over for them..

I’ll kill one if they get in the landscaping lights off the back porch.

Who else uses cheap solar lights to night pig hunt? I need 1 bright one that's directional & solar. I only have a telephone pole about 25' from my feeder that I can mount one.

I used to use those before I got night vision.

I just used the brighter LED motion sensor lights.

Put a couple of them on T-Posts facing away from where I sit, on both sides of the feeder. Lights up well.

Hogs get used to the light coming on and off. What was frustrating was getting one in your scope, and just about to pull the trigger, and the light shuts off because there's not enough movement. Gotta wait until something moves again. wink

I used to do it weekly but haven't in probably 6 months. I will probably get back into it after deer season. Mainly hunting with night vision or motion sensor lights attached to feeders.

I'd like to use ones that come on @ dusk & off @ dawn. The light turning off when I'm ready to shoot would be a real stinker!

I've used a (fairly) cheap white light from Harbor Freight with satisfactory results. https://www.harborfreight.com/60-led-solar-security-light-69643.html

They're motion activated, but you can set them to stay on for a couple of minutes. If they go off, it'll come right back on in a couple of seconds. The hogs around here got used to them in about five minutes. Just make sure the light is pointing away from your shooting location or it's all you'll see! I like that they're not always on. If the light comes on, I know something is there.

I have hunted hogs in daylight maybe only 3 times this year. The other 130+ times have been at night.
