So tell me...why is the newest CM, the 25 CM, or is it the 257 CM, already talked about and even praised in some circles. Nobody much loved it when it was called the 250 Savage AI. Build it, call it a Creedmoor and they will come...and buy...

A poll that I posted earlier found the 6.5 Creedmoor wasn't near as popular as some might have expected, which was very surprising since magazine writers never exaggerate the popularity of anything.
Of course if Tikka offered one it might get a little more popularity boost, at least in these parts.

A lot of guys on the hide really like it. Like 99.9% of cartridges these days it’s a remake of what has already been done. The creedmoor case which has roots in a parent case (I recall it 30 AR) is a more efficient design. One has to ask at what point are we now splitting hairs and at a point of non appreciable gains but great marketing. I think we are there, but gun companies are great at marketing. I’ll stick to my 257 Bob AI. Always been a bang flop and if I want more speed I’ll go with 257 Roy.

I am pretty sure Tikka makes 6.5 Creedmoor since there are four of them in boxes sitting on my dining room table. If you think 6.5 CM isn’t the hottest selling caliber go try to buy some 6.5 caliber Bullets or ammo right now.

I like old reloading manuals. I picked up a Hornady #3 and a Speer #10 from the 70s. You should see the list of cartridges in them. Interesting what was going on back then. Of course it was all about hunting. A soft point boat tail was the equivalent of Berger or ELDM. A lot of surplus rounds and some hot wildcats like the 8mm-06 or 6.5x57. Lots or round nose bullets too.

My 243's will kill just as many animals as the Fadmoor's. Dead is dead. If I want more gun for deer, I'll grab the 25-06.

If you do some checking, you’ll find that ammo for more long-standing calibers continues to outsell that of the 6.5 Creedmoor and will very likely continue to do so for many years to come.

That’s a pretty lame comparison. I bet regular motor oil still outsells synthetic, too.

Truth be told, I was just stirring the pot. But I did read about the 25 (or 257) Creedmoor being a new ‘thing’, and geez, that’s just the same thing as the 250 Savage AI. So we are back almost where we started with a old cartridge with a new name. That is pretty weird, and took several iterations to get here. It really doesn’t bother me. They can shoot what they want. But it does interest me.
As an aside, some may argue that the Creedmore evolved from the 30TC, but do ask yourself where the 30TC came from.
The 6.5 CM absolutely has to be the hottest seller around these days. Everybody that tells me they have a new rifle has a 6.5 CM, and that includes my two brothers. Neither of them even hunt anymore. One bought the rifle so his grandkids could hunt. The other traded into the rifle, which I scoped, worked up loads, and sighted in for him. When he showed up to get it, I had 103 rounds made up. He put 3 into a tiny little group. He then took the stuff home and put it in a closet. Why? I don’t know. But he has a Creedmore.

I get that the 6.5CM is very popular along with the other CM cartridges in the family. What I don’t understand is why so many hate on it? I hope they come out with a Creedmoor for every cal. Size. I love guns, shooting, loading and all that that implies. Don’t you haters or Complainers feel the same? FYI I hate Savages in any Caliber and would never recommend one.

Those marketers could sell 30-30 Creedmoors, and have a strong following!

The first rule of the CM fanboys is, you must talk about 6.5 CM. These are the guys that had never picked up a gun in their lives until they bought a CM. But they grew up with social media so since the have a sample size of one it is obviously the best, there is no argument, and it must be shouted from the hilltops. Many have no on-game experience; they’ve only ever punched paper or steel but that’s good enough to tell the world it’s killer on brown bears and adequate for elephant.

Shortest answer I can produce.
6.5 Creedmoor has decent bullet weight, decent BC, decent MV.
6mm Creedmoor runs a 115 gr DTAC at the heaviest. BC is good, speed is significantly faster.
25 Creedmoor sits in the middle. Getting some speed from the 6mm, and getting some BC and bullet weight from the 6.5mm. But for the first time in the history of bullets, Blackjack bullets made a fairly heavy, high BC .257" bullet. Historically. 257 bullets did not have a very good BC
It's not about hunting, it is about shooting targets very far away in heavy winds. All of them will kill north American game just fine.
I asked dee about what he has seen, since the numbers intrigued me. He told me the super slippery Blackjack bullets (right now) are bullet jump sensitive. So when you've got the load tuned, and the jump correct, the cartridge is phenomenal. Doing exactly what ut was built to do. But when the throat erodes, and the bullet jump is larger, it can start to shoot poorly. He and I both decided to pass on the cartridge for that reason. But I'm still keeping my eye on it.

In all seriousness, the 6.5 Creedmoor is a short action 6.5x55. The Swede had a reputation for its long range ability, accuracy and killing power above its weight class. It had an 8 twist and the case let you load bullets as long as you would ever need.
None of the 6.5s ever really caught on with the Americans until the Creedmoor. Does the same thing the Swede did for 120+ years but from a short action AND finally was a 6.5 cartridge that broke through the American market.

This whole subject can be summed up very easily. The Creedmoor love and hate are overdone by some on either side. It's ridiculous to act like any cartridge is the second coming and it's even more ridiculous to hate something because it's popular.
