Wearing 500 dollar pants seems commensurate when shooting a 10,000 dollar deer.

Yes, the prices are sometimes obscene, but, progress is made in clothing technology. Many on here swear by them. Lemme know if you're still wearing cotton long johns.

I have a few pieces (you forgot First Lite). 'Haven't paid 500 yet for a pair of pants, but with the price of some Alaska hunts nowadays, this is a drop in the bucket to be able to keep hunting.

I'm out on the high dollar stuff.
My dad hunted in a flannel shirt and a pair of Levi's, just saying.

I have camo, gortex stuff but out on the $500.00 stuff. Over the top if you ask me.

Maybe if they were unconditionally no questions asked
guaranteed to the original purchaser, maybe then.
I've had really good luck with plain old fashioned polypro
long handles and the same outwear I wear in the fall
or spring season. I can sew pretty decent and have iron
on patches if need be

You dont need Kuiu or Sitka to sit on a feeder. You likely need some to hunt sheep, moose, bear, etc where you need real performance. Kind of the difference between a pro mechanic using Snap-on and you changing your old ladies oil with a Chinese crescent wrench.

While there have been substantial improvements in materials, I think a lot of it is the same as kids wanting the latest Yeezy shoes. Gotta show off for your contemporaries.

I have both Sitka, Kuiu, and Cabelas Jackets. While yes sitting in a stand you don't really need it i will say i like the fit and they are so much less bulky than the older options(cabelas and bass pro) is why i like them.

Ok, less bulky, is there any thing else that makes them worth the price?

I agree. I try to find clothing that uses the more proven materials like Thinsulate and Gore-Tex and forget about the label. I also refuse to pay $400 for a cooler.

Like someone said above, wearing camo in a deer blind staring at a deer feeder is about as necessary as a screen door on a submarine.

500 dollars worth of camo is a nice touch at the gun range too!

Thanks, Billy

Comparing SitkaGear to Walls is a long stretch, the technology of the 4 way stretch fabric is built for durability, comfort and silence. I agree that if you're sitting in a blind watching a feeder then you probably can use anything, but if you are hunting western states, spot and stalk hunting or just like really good performance clothing then you should give it a try. I've worn their solid colors to hunt for years and have used their products for over 10 years with some of my first purchases still being worn every season and still in great shape.

The expensive stuff is where you get wind barriers, some water resistance, insulation, durability and quiet all mixed into the same piece.

I have cabelas silent suede waterproof insulated and it is warm and protects well from elements, but it is loud and not usable for bow hunting. With a rife, usually not a problem except in Cold quiet days when it seems to really crinkle a lot. So for me in OK where most of my hunting is bow stand distance, i will spend a little more to get all the above plus quiet.

The only pieces i know out of those brands that is close to 500 dollars is for their extreme weather gear, incinerator from sitka and gale force from kuiu, those are designed for extreme weather and most people will bot utilize them, but the folks that do swear by the stuff.

Another aspect is longevity, most of the time the more expensive gear is going to last longe and has a good warranty to go with it. I don’t have all higher end stuff, but i have enough to know it works well for its intended uses.

I'm not big on camo, even though I'm not much of a stand hunter. I believe the vast majority of hunting products are made to appeal to the human eye, and not necessarily the quarry's. I've had little trouble killing stuff without it.

i was a pair of long johns, jeans and a flannel shirt with a Carhart jacket type guy most of my life. I'm pretty resistant to change and when i do change to more contemporary trends i'm usually way behind the curve.

But, I'm 100% on board with technical hunting clothes like Sitka, Kuiu and First-lite. I used to be a nay-sayer as well, then i bought some and don't know how I ever lived without it.

First off.....the pants are not $500. The most common styles are $100-$200.

Secondly, there are alot of people who purchase them just for the Hip/Cool factor, but that can be said about just about any product; guns, scopes, trucks, tires, etc.

Thirdly, they do perform worlds better than the clothes we had 15 or 20 years ago. Enough that it makes a difference in being comfortable and miserable. I have froze my arse off plenty in jeans and jackets and refuse to do it anymore if i can help it. This stuff is warm, light and not bulky....performs great and you don't look like Ralphie's little brother walking thru the woods

And yes, if its cold I will wear it in a stand......Yesterday it was cold and rainy so i suited up in under-armor baselayers, put on my firstlite softshell pants, had a t-shirt and then a grid fleece also by first-lite topped off with a Kuiu Guide jacket ( jacket was a light black, so i was not head to to camo) Also had a $30 wool neck gaiter from First-lite as well. All in all probably had on $650 worth of clothing on. But, I already own it so why not wear it, and by god I was warm and comfy. The other people with us were in more regular type of clothing ( probably close to what your daddy wore ) and they were cold and not nearly as comfortable.

Make the investment, buy the stuff and see how wonderful it is. Or not, continue wearing clothing that you will be cold and wet in and then look down upon those of us that wear the expensive stuff.

Both Kuiu and Firstlte make some excellent solid color apparel for those adverse to Camo. I bowhunt quite a bit so i went with camo on my firstlite but will be buying some solid color pants in future.

If you're a stand hunter, Carhartt layers and Carhartt bibs will not let you get cold either, for about half the money. Darn Tough wool socks help mucho.

If your on a stand you could wear a Snuggie and be fine.

I like smart wool socks.

Any brands you recommend?

I do own a pair of First Lite camo pants, that I bought at DSC last year, that I was looking at, on myself, as I followed my Napoleon-complex guide a week and a half ago. 'Look at my legs, look at the surroundings. I swear Bozo would have blended in better (without honking the horn). I suppose they're made for northern rock scree in our most northwest state and our currently not-so-welcoming neighbors to the north.

What’s up with same textiles at the same costs in mountaineering brands like Mountain Hardware, Arct’eryx, mammut Spider, etc.?

We do people wear Darntough, smartwool, and farm to feet socks vs Walmart cotton?

Why do some people work out all year to go hunting in sept and oct?
