Just went up and back on a boondoggle elk hunt. I picked a route I've never been before, up 70 from Sweetwater. North of Turkey (the home of Bob Wills, I was happy to learn) is a picnic area with the old ladders to climb the fence, which I hadn't seen in many, many years, and then I crossed the valley over the, I think, Prairie Dog Fork of the Red River. Absolutely stunning country! Anyone hunt mule deer in that area? Do they have mule deer leases up there? I actually like red dirt (in moderation).

My place is in Hall County and I'll tell ya, the antler restrictions are working. I've never seen muley bucks like I've seen on my place the last two years. There are many leases but I don't know of any "mule deer" specific leases. Most properties around here will have both mule deer and whitetail. There are also a few hunting lodges in the vicinity with access to both low and high fence ranches. The panhandle is an awesome place to hunt and absolutely beautiful country.

The mule deer herds lack for mature bucks in these counties. The new regs will help improve things in a few more years IMO. Dickens is a sleeper. Gods country........

I hunt Briscoe. There are trophy Mulies there (monsters) however with the big ones stay close in the canyon and only come out for full rut or very very cold weather.
