It’s been raining up here off and on all day and I’m loving it. Cloudy, cool and light rainy days are my favorite days to hunt and I’ve taken some great deer on these types of days. The deer have been moving since about 8:45 pretty much non stop so I guess their enjoying the rain as well. Anyone else enjoy hunting in the rain? [Linked Image]

Great buck, way cool. The two bucks I just posted on age/score were both out in a very light off and on rain/drizzle/mist. Im not sure if its better or not but I never shy away from rain. Im an all day hunter so I enjoy sitting in a comfortable blind all day in off and on rain. Im not sure if they come out more after a rain but I always anticipate they will so I enjoy that anticipation. I just tried to think back about how many bucks ive killed in rain and its not a lot. But like STx said, it doesnt rain a lot more often than it does rain.

At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR

Rain knocks down scent and covers noise - I love it.

I took this buck in mid-December a few years ago when it rained when I got in the blind till after I killed this buck at 9:40 am. It was 37 degrees that morning and very nasty cold. It had rained off and on all night long then continued till late afternoon.

These pics are from the last couple of years...problem is down here that some places when it rains it is nearly impossible to get out in and around the pastures with all the clay soils. All of these pics were on days it rained all night long and had to drive a gravel road to get to a blind. Really limits hunting to blinds just off the main roads unless you want to walk 2-6 miles in wet clay.

These pics were taken last year on a rainy day with temps in the low 40's and it rained off and on all day long. Two fights broke out one after another and bucks came in from all directions that mid November day.

The deer down here actually do move very well on wet or damp days. They just not see enough of it and like the cooler temps rainfall brings.

As Eddie Rabbitt once sang, "I love the rainy nights" just not a torrential rain.

You will see more animals when it's just plain nasty outside. Cold, wet, drizzly is the bomb. Plus, there aren't many other hunters out. banana2

(Very cool buck in the OP. cheers)

Rain is a faint memory here in Throckmorton County too. Missed it again this afternoon. Y’all enjoy it! Maybe this weekend?

The only time it's better than being in the deer woods during a light, cold rain is during the morning once an all night rain comes to an end.

I hunt when I can, wind direction factors in more than anything. And I go where my scent effects things the least. Deer can't pack up and head to the Motel 6 when the weather turns bad. If I got it two months out of the year, weather wouldn't factor in at all...

Hunted Oklahoma this year during their muzzleloader season. Rained Monday morning through Thursday afternoon, with temps in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s. Might have been OK in a box blind, but hunting out of a climber sucked.

OlThumper, that one doesn’t look like he’s moving!

Love hunting in the rain. Wish I remembered what rain was like.

I remember back in the 50's, there were kids 6-7 years old that never had seen rain. That was a tough time.

Very enjoyable in my box blind. Miserable on the tripod or lock on. Still a favorite time to hunt.
