he was sitting in my lap - could feel him shaking - told him to relax and take deep breaths which he did - came time to pull the trigger and I told him to let it rip

After we tracked and found him I told him this "Grandpa will gut your first one - so watch closely on how I do it". The next deer you shoot YOU will gut it - he watched every move I made - life is good - each of us should be responsible for passing down the tradition of hunting -

Fantastic!

Congrats

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Congrats to your grandson. You are helping raise him right, and I like your approach with cleaning his deer. I wish I had done the same with my daughter years ago. I still clean all of her deer.

Great. Congrats to both of you. I like the gutting idea too. Of course if he doesnt want to gut the next one you will have a decision to make. Im always curious what gun a kid shoots....?

At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR

A 223 - all 3 of my grandsons shot deer with it in the last 2 weeks - two dropped in their tracks and one went about 30 yards

on the gutting I was taught that the only way to learn it was to do it - so I tried to do that with my kids and now with my grandkids - I heard a speaker years ago who said "the greatest gift you can give to your kids is to teach them how to work and fend for themselves"
