Try to buy maple leafs or Morgans if possible. Generic rounds are harder to prove they are real. Also watch the spot price. You will pay spot on top of the going rate. Ex: if market is 23.00 ounce and Spot is 2.00 bucks, you will pay 25.00 per ounce. Spot can flux with the seller so shop around.

Depends on what you mean when you say “coins.”

If you are going “Junk” silver like TWYC mentions, that’s one thing. If you want .999 silver you can get coins, bars, and a variety. You can get fractional coins etc. you can also go metric and do grams and such. If you are just getting started and don’t know, I would suggest the secondary market. Tons of options and it’s very easy to get started and not drop a ton of money.

If you are going to do it long term I would also suggest picking a theme.

Lastly, if this is a short term, in and out, I wouldn’t do silver.

I always confer with the Hunt Brothers when trying to corner the silver market.

Really? I think it would be pretty easy to sell silver coins at face value.

Prices are somewhat high now....I personally would not be buying. If I were buying I would buy common or junk pre 64 U.S. coins or new Silver Eagles....easier to sell if you need to. I would avoid buying so called collectable coins....easy to over pay for mis-graded coins.

Maybe not coins but I was thinking along the lines of silver bars. Who do you sell to based on the current price of silver

I think silver will go even higher if Biden ends up in office. There is already impending inflation, with the Democrats liberal agenda inflation with go through the roof and devalue the dollar. Gold and silver will climb.

What's the difference between market price and spot price?

What is the "secondary market"?

In simplest terms it’s second hand buying. Not from a particular vendor, but maybe a vendor selling for someone. APMEX usually has decent secondary options. It’s just a bit cheaper, but stamp will be random.

Prices are high right now.

The pre 64 coins are a good option if you are going to hold, or collect coins. Depends on what your goal is in silver.

Silver Eagles are always safe. I don’t collect them, but many people do and you can always move them.

The collectible coins I would agree with, stay away from those. But there are some series which are good. I have an Egyptian series that is crazy good. But that’s really not collectibles. You can get some good themed/series coins which have better than average value.
