I am taking my buddy to the lease this weekend. I haven't been since opening weekend, anyone have any insight if the rut has begun in the county or nearby?

You should get some feedback with direct knowledge but while you wait I would check out the thread about Archer County rut and I think another thread in Hamilton. Rut timing may vary some by location but shouldnt be far off and theres just general advise in there on timing rut regardless of location.

The other guy that hunts our property said he saw bucks chasing doe last Sunday, I haven't seen any chasing at my blind yet. I walked out into another field and had 6 doe walk within 30 yards of me with no buck anywhere in sight. The other guy said he had 2 young bucks and 10 doe at his feeder.

No doubt you have missed most of the rut so far, the good news is that most bucks are past the lockdown stage and we're seeing a lot of bucks cruising again and scent checking does. We rattled in probably 30 bucks in the first 10 days or so of the season then we hit a patch of only small bucks this last weekend, changed our methods a bit and every good buck we saw was with a doe. Sunday and monday were slow for us then yesterday swung the other way again, we rattled in 8 bucks yesterday late morning, sat the stand today and saw bucks literally running, it is a great time to be in the stand or at least hunting all day as those bucks will only rest for a short period then be back on the move. Get out there and stay as long as you can.

Missed it!? I am not sure about that... I have been quite a bit and it seemed like opening rifle weekend the bucks were starting to run off other bucks. One of the guys on the lease said he shot a right after it had dismounted a doe last weekend.

You didn't miss it, you missed most of it just like I said. Im in SW Young County and we've already seen the majority of mature bucks go thru the "tending stage" or lockdown and start seeking again. The good news is that every single doe does not go into estrus at the exact same time and with bucks seeking again there is a good chance now that you may intercept one. Good luck, it's a great time to be hunting.

Sounds good, I hunt near 209 in Graham. Really excited for the weekend, everyone besides me has got a nice buck on the lease last weekend. Good luck to you too sir!
