Hello,

I had a question regarding the "Proof of Sex" General Hunting Regulation.

Currently my plan is to pack in and camp in a public hunting area and if I was so fortunate as to take a whitetail deer I was going to quarter it and take it back to my vehicle which will be a bit of a hike away. Part of the regulation states that you must retain "Proof of Sex" until its final destination, in this case the cold storage of an ice chest in my car. Will I get in trouble if I quarter in the field and take it to my vehicle even if its a 1-2 hour hike back?

Just for information, I only have some experience hunting and not on a public land area. Placed in "Deer Hunting" because this one is specific to Deer or Pronghorn.

Thank you!

An ice chest is not a final destination. Your home freezer or a licensed processor is. For Texas, keep the head with you until you reach home and process the deer (sitting in your fridge aging with no head is not good) or drop it off at the processor.

You have to maintain proof of sex until ”final destination”, Ice chest isnt considered a cold storage facility. Be cool if it was, but it's not.

Keep proof until process takes your tag or you butcher at home

You'll have to carry the head with you. Skin and quarter then wrap in skin like a backpack. Final destination is home or commercial processor. If you leave it with a friend to process make sure you leave the proof of sex and a resource document with your info. It makes things easier to explain if you have nosy neighbors looking for a "buck". Good luck.

Keep head with you until you arrive at home and cut it up or drop it off at the processor.

Oh, if you are asking about making two trips to pack out. Bring the head out with you on your first trip, then go back in to get
the rest of the meat.

I have an additional question so I'll use this same thread:

Are feral hogs and exotics considered "non-game" or "game" for the purposes of legal shooting hours?

Thanks again.

When you buy the APH you will receive a booklet with the places you can hunt. Look at the official page of each unit for what's allowed and what's not. Here's a link.

You could pack the genitalia with you, lighter to carry back and forth than the whole head. smile I've heard some states require the meat to come out before the head/trophy. Not sure how true that is.

Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.

The end of the world began the day it was created, and life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease.

You might want to consider buying a game cart. Then you can bring everything out in one trip.
