I was just informed today that my uncles brother took his 14 year old granddaughter hunting and when she stopped responding to messages he assumed she had fallen asleep. He went to check on her and she was dead presumably from carbon monoxide poisoning. They think she actually did fall asleep and passed away while asleep. Their are a lot of unanswered questions yet to be answered but I thought I would put up a reminder for anyone using a heater in a deer stand. I can’t imagine living through this scenario so please take precautions guys. It doesn’t take long for it to happen either in a small space like a deer blind,

That’s awful and very scary as I did just the same thing this last weekend. My son now 14 is hunting by himself now and I dropped him off and turned on the heater for him Sunday morning. I always preach safety and make sure the windows are open to ventilate. But still it makes me a little nervous.

This is why I don't have a deer stand heater. My condolences to you and your family.

So sorry to hear of this. Thank You for posting the warning/reminder.
Heaters can be used safely....but it absolutely imperative to have GOOD ventilation and for ALL to understand the need for it.
I run a Big Buddy heater in my Daughter's deer stand at times, but we always have at least two windows open. I keep two large blankets in the stand to wrap her in and the heater is just supplemental.
My prayers and condolences for the family, I can't imagine how grief stricken they must be right now.

Sweet angel. Incredibly tragic. We lose a few hunters every year to this.

Just tragic. Prayers for the family. I can't begin to imagine the pain.
Side note, not just ventilation-my dad burned a 2' hole in the ranch house floor on October 16, having something too close to a heater.

that breaks my heart - rest in peace
might I add that the same goes for a trailer home - get a carbon monoxide alarm - lots of hunters have died the same way while in their trailers
You can't fix stupid

Thump, what kind of heater? Mr Buddy Mr. Buddy is supposed to have a low oxygen cut off that would supposedly stop something like that from happening.

Turned it on highest setting. looking in the window, it took about 15 minutes and then it shut off. This was a 4X4 stand.

That's beyond horrible. Prayers for all concerned.
I just bundle up big time if it's cold - thermals and whatever - and be cold if I have to be cold. I don't trust those things.
