Here in North Texas for what looks to be a shoulder injury. 7 year old working lab. Local vet diagnosed arthritis but I just can’t wrap my head around that. It was a sudden onset, not gradual and the shoulder is flailing when trying to run. Definitely not natural movement. We are on day six of medications and no real improvement.

Thinking Dr. Aycock but didn’t know what else is out there.

You're spot on.
Ed would be the first one i would go to, without a doubt. He can pass you on to a specialist if needed.

No doubt Dr Aycock is great. I’ve had very good luck with Dr Keith Taylor at Rockwall Veterinary Clinic, when he doesn’t know....he will tell you.

His ex-wife Judy has the tru mark bloodline.

Unfortunately, shoulder injuries are very difficult to fix.

I would recommend a surgeon. In Dallas there is Dallas Veterinary surgical center and Medvet. Probably others. A surgeon is probably best equipped to make a diagnosis if it isn't arthritis. May need CT/MRI.

I've referred to DVSC in the past and been very pleased. Also know a couple vets at Medvet.

Even though I live right outside of Houston, I've started just taking my dogs to A&M in College Station.
They are not cheap by any means, but a lot less expensive than the specialist in Houston.
One of my dogs sees their sports medicine & Rehabilitation therapy program. She has moderate HD, and so far has been able to avoid having surgery, and still hunts.
A specialist in Houston gave me a estimate of three to four thousand, to do dental surgery on my senior dog.
She's old and has to have an anesthesiologist, plus her heart, and lungs checked before surgery.
A&M did it for $1200, and even did synthetic bone grafts to fill the voids. Plus sealants some of the teeth that were chipped.
They diagnos and, treated one of my dogs with Bartonella.
Same dog with a soft tissue injury a few months later.

Their ortho can take a while to get a appointment.
If it's serious and I don't want one of my dogs to wait.
I just have them admitted to their ER. You pay a ER fee, but they are seen in the same day.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Just to update the thread, I appreciate all the feedback. Still no real diagnosis, Dr. Aycock wasn't expected back to practice until after the first of the year. Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center told me they would not diagnose. Going to Dr. Wall in the Woodlands for MRI.

Sorry to hear of the injury. If you do end up needing surgery at DVSC, I can recommend Dr. Angel Thompson. She did an excellent job with my lab's TPLO surgery. I use Dr. Dale Gleason at Lone Oak Veterinary Clinic for my regular vet. He sees a lot of field trial and hunt test dogs.
