Curious - does dog food work as a good bait for coyotes? Or what would?
Have a pack of 5 showing up on camera. Would like to draw them in with something.

Pickup some road kill.
With the large number of coons on the road side it won't be a problem.
Pitch them out late in the evening after the vultures have gone home for the day.

Find an old style butcher shop and ask them for some bones or trimmings.

Yup, pigs. Even better after the buzzards have opened things up.
And oddly enough, I had a coyote flop down on a pile of used cat litter. He rolled around on it before we had his exit interview.

I can't remember too awful much about it. I read an article in one of the trapping books about where ( Texas Tech?) did an experiment with different animal turds and coyotes, and the preferred turds were domestic cat

There must be some attraction in the cat poo. The coyote slipped out of the undergrowth, walked 10’ to the pile of poo and kitty litter, dropped on his side and “wallered” in it. Just having a grand old time. Stirred up a small dust cloud. I let him enjoy the moment before I shot him. Felt kind of bad about it, but remembered that they eat my fawns.

Poop and pee is "cologne " to a coyote. Yes, they'll eat every fawn or calf or pet dog or cat or prized fowl or wild turkey poults or whatever they can catch. I try to whittle on the numbers whenever I can, deer hunting or not. They're like feral hogs. They're "neat " to have around. For a while. Until you see the damage they do, especially when you get your own property and see how they tear up your stuff and kill the animals you don't want killed.

Well that'd be too much of a drive. I was going to say to stop by and I'd hand you a half a dozen or so squirrels out of the freezer. They're excellent trap bait, and I don't see why they wouldn't work just as well for a hunt. You can make up/buy commercial bait easier and cheaper than driving a couple of hours one way

Stop by any place that has traps and lures/baits and get a bottle of Hawbaker's coyote #500. It should be easy to find. Even bass amateur has it

We kill pigs and drop them off in the boneyard. Our yotes are so jsed to having food in the boneyard, that sometimes they'll just stop by to check it. Pigs make the perfect yote bait.

When I shoot my pigs I have a couple of trees that I wire them up to. It keeps coyotes from dragging them off the first night or two. I have shot some that came back just to try to get a single leg bone still wired to the tree.

large can of cheap fish type catfood, coyotes/bobcats will come find it fast if they feel safe.
salmon seems to work best here, I turn a small hole and put about 1/3 can in and bury/pack, put the rest on top of it and sit back.

I didn’t see anyone mention it but I have at least a couple pics of coyotes and fox sneaking off with apples I’d put out for the deer.
