I was in the blind Saturday Morning. The feeder went off, about 45 minutes later 5 doe show up. One big grey doe, 2 mature but slightly smaller and 2 yearling doe. They stayed there for over 1 hr 15 minutes, just eating Every little corn and grazing around the area. I had So many shots, but chose to not take any. The previous year I took a deer on opening Day. I am not a trophy hunter and this lease doesn't really produce any trophy deer. Just out there to put meet in the freezer, and to enjoy hanging out. It was maddening, but my buddy who goes to camp to relax and goes years without shooting any deer said he just likes to watch them and once someone shoots, they kind of disappear for the season. So I waited, that evening no deer seen at either blind, and shots where heard at properties all around our small lease. The next morning, no deer seen at either blind, now I am starting to worry that the season will be over before it really began. I tell my buddy that if I get the chance again I will be taking the shot, but I also ask him to take the shot and I tell him if he gets it and I will do All the work hauling and processing. He is older and not fit, and sometimes I think he doesn't shoot because he does not want to do all the work. So I hear a shot from his direction Sunday evening at about 445pm, he yells and we go find the big grey doe I had seen before. I haul her, skin, gut and quarter her. Even though I didn't take the shot, I felt the same as if I had. Knowing that I could have and allowing him to make the kill somehow felt as satisfying as if I did it myself. just wanted to share that. I hope you all can have the joy of enjoying someone else's success.

Good friends are hard to find, especially ones that'll hunt with you for just the time being out there and not trying to prove their deer expertise. You've done well young man. up

Great post Jamoke. I got to help an elderly gentleman on the last lease I was on too. He got a dandy and we were the only two hunting that weekend. I felt the same way you did.

Yep, great post. Son and granddaughter got their deer and I cleaned both. Now I'm taking my father to do a little herd reduction. I'll clean what he kills too. I still don't plan on shooting anything because my freezer will be full of the reward of providing family with successful hunts. I had one in mind but I can wait now.

Great story!

I haven’t shot a whitetail for 10 years but gut and skin several for friends or guests every year.
I can’t stand to watch someone piddle around because they aren’t sure of their cleaning skills so I just do it.
Plus I kind of enjoy doing it.

This ^^^^^^
Last year I was hunting on a ranch in South Texas and it was raining and nasty mud. The last morning I had not killed a buck and it had rained all night. A friend was hunting a particular buck and it was at a blind 3.5 miles from HQ. I was going to have him drop me off at a blind when he asked if I wanted to hunt with him. I said heck yea. The trip across the ranch took us longer than we expected in the sticky clay mud that morning. It was foggy and still light rain when we made it to the blind just before legal shooting light. The feeder went off and about 5 minutes later about 8 bucks and a few does/fawns could be seen moving in from the west, north and NE. He recognized the buck he was after moving in from the NE. We had a south/SE wind and the feeders were to our north. When he opened the window to shoot the deer in front of us caught our scent immediately and the big buck was already turned and heading back when my friend got his rifle out the window. He had a small window for a shot as the buck cleared the brush and stopped for a split second in an opening. He shot and dropped the buck in his tracks. It was his biggest buck ever....it had tons of mass, great spread and had about an 8" droptine to boot. I had more fun on that short hunt and took more from it than if I had killed the buck myself.

I think this post needs to go over and "mingle" with the ones about lease rules. THIS is what you look for in a lease. People help each other. Comradery. Brotherhood. Enjoyment of the hunt and spreading the love. Screw how many rules there are posted or not posted or who hunts where.....

If you have ^^^^THIS^^^^ you have it ALL figured out
