Couldn't pass up the pintail.....

First part is just the ducks coming in before shooting light then it skips ahead.
Last bird of the morning

I tell yeah when those birds are pouring in like that on a pond, I'll shoot my 6 birds, then send my dog. Because it can all be over after 15 minutes.

I really waited too long. I had a ton of birds in when I finally decided to shoot. My first shot isn't on camera, I was off to the left and you can't see anything. I could have probably water swated 3-4 to begin with.

But most of the birds left and it wasn't as easy as it could have been.

I also had a ton of ringers in there and I was trying to only shoot puddle ducks.

This is in the draw of a pretty large body of water actually. Just was where they wanted to be.

Here is the thing, when you down a bird on private water, the bird is going no where. When I had my lease for 5 years, I would shoot wounded birds, and they all did the same thing. I would watch them in my blind with binoculars, they swim to the shore, then walk about 10 yards or so up on the bank, and just hunker down and hope to hell they are not found. Let them wounded ducks settle in, your dog will walk right up and pick them up. Otherwise, your dog can spend forever chasing a diving duck in the water.

Public much different, a wounded duck is gone, and is rare they go up on shore and hunker down.

Yes, I've done all the training on her and my young black lab
"Rally"

If anyone is bored or wants to watch some dog work there are quite a few videos of us training on that same YouTube page as the videos posted.

Trained my last three myself. Two were average but one was very special. He had that "urge" that can't be trained. Was offer $5k for him once on a goose hunt and just laughed.
