Thought I’d throw this out in case anyone has run across this story. We have a place in Northern Brown County between Brownwood and Cross Plains. A buddy of mine was hunting on Sunday evening and somehow left his rifle on top of his car as he was leaving. He didn’t realize what he’d done until he got home 2 hours later. He went back and and found nothing in the ditch or in the road. This was his grandfathers rifle.
If you have heard anything about it or know someone who hunts in this area please let me know. This area is around Cross Cut and the rifle was likely found on CR411, CR 120 or on Hwy 279. Appreciate any leads. Thanks.

There's a moral to this story.

Just going to bite my tongue on this one.

Hope it is recovered.

Maybe an 'honest' person picked it up, but these days........well good luck.

I come in here an thumb around once in a while but never posted. I ran across your post and had to help. I happened to be in the convenience store in Cross Plains on the way home from the ranch Sunday night and there was a guy looking for the Cross Plains PD to report a rifle he found on the road. He said it was pretty busted up. Hopefully he can contact them and get his rifle back. Hope this helps.

Incredibly irresponsible handling and care of a firearm. I’ve left cups/mugs on top of my car and driven off...but a rifle?

People lose and forget stuff all the time. You'd be surprised at the number of forgotten/misplaced expensive shotguns in the safe at Elm Fork.

I lost a shotgun in Kansas once while pheasant hunting. Leaned the unloaded gun against the truck as mother nature was calling. Just so happened at the same time my buddies were watching birds work the fields down the road. Needless to say they were in a hurry to go. Like an idiot I left it there. Fortunately, the community was very tight and the farmers we were hunting with located my shotgun. We drove over and picked it up the next day. Super great people and a hard lesson learned for a teenager. Everyone makes mistakes. Good luck

So what you are saying is that you have been incredibly irresponsible as well, just with a different item?

Is my 210th post supposed to be one of significance? Not really concerned with your 4277th post, but my stance is quite valid.

You didn’t read the rules yet have ya. Post 210 and post 4279 are supposed to be special...he was building up. If you don’t do it then you have a chance of getting banned. Good luck!

THF has done it again. We picked up the rifle from Cross Plains PD this morning and the gun was in near mint condition. My buddy learned a valuable lesson and The moral of the story is that people make mistakes and there are some good people out there. Before you kick a man who is down, might check yourself because you may need somebody to show you grace oneday!
