We had an amazing trip last month on our DIY Moose Hunt. Just my Father and I in camp on an 11 day hunt. We were back in Bethel after 5 days in the field. It was the best hunt of my life and I got to experience it with my dad which of course made it even more special. Dads moose was 58" and my bull was 52". We saw some giants but they were to far off and on other side of the lake. Very physically challenging and emotion trip. Cant wait to see them on the wall!

Thanks guys! It truly was an amazing trip. Only seen my dad cry a few times and this trip was one of them! We went with Renfro's out of Bethel, AK. We booked through Russ at Outdoors International. This my second DIY trip to Alaska. I went last year on a DIY Caribou trip. Its very physically demanding. Once you shot your animal you have to process it and get it into game bags. You can not leave any meat on the moose period. Once its in game bags you have to pack it to the lake where they pick it up in the airplane. We got lucky and both our moose were within 200 yrds from camp/lake. Some guys packed a mile or more. The ground is the equivalent to walking on a water soaked mattress. There is no preparation for walking in Alaska. The caribou hunt was even worse. It takes some time to get the moose from the shot to the lake . Figure on a full day and more if its a long distance. I saw one big black bear but it was right at dusk and across the lake. We heard wolves one night but never saw one. The scenery and surroundings were breath taking. Its a trip of a life time and I highly recommend it! There were probably 80 hunters give or take this year both DIY and Guided and i think they were about 5 hunters off 100% success rate. Some absolute giants were killed! They were chasing one bull that would go #1 PY. Ended up getting him with a rifle after 1st hunter couldn't connect.
