Why would anyone even attempt to deer hunt with someone in camp who decides 8:00am on opening morning is the time to break out every pistol and AR they own and start target practice. A camp across the valley from us did just that. Didn't affect us because we're a couple miles away, but what morons. If that is a paid lease I would be busting someones gun over their knucklehead!

Had a 740 acre lease in Clalhan County that the neighbors would start shooting right at sunrise at their "range" that was just across the fence from our place. I was not hunting there when they did that but others were. The following weekend they were hunting the range stand and I opened up with the BMG for a few rounds then a couple mags from the PS90. We cam to truce about shooting a lot while others were hunting.

Maybe they were archers and just letting the world know they were there?

Maybe they own the land and feel they can do what they want when they want?

Maybe they saw the writing on the wall and celebrated Biden winning?

Either way, why worry about stuff you can not control and didn’t seem to affect your hunting anyway....

God grant me the strength to change the things I can, the patience to deal with the things I can not, and the wisdom to know the difference...this am we all need a little more of that prayer!

Well your close. Neighbors leasee put a blind and feeder next to property line. They were asked to move it away from the fence and didn’t. So LO decided that was just the spot for their gun range.

I guess they moved the offending feeder. I haven’t heard any shots this morning.

Knew a guy that owned some land that didn't want anyone shooting his deer. so whenever he saw someone hunting next door he would start target practice. The Game warden put a stop to that.

You just have to accept it and not let it bother you. When I had an invitation to hunt on a friends property the neighbor would slam on his horn in the evening to attract his cattle. It annoyed the heck out of me but he was doing his thing and I learned to accept it.

here is the truth of the matter ...........

I am 67 - hunted all my life . Back in the day nobody would dream of putting stands or feeders on someone elses fenceline. Was consider totally unethical.

Fast forward to todays world - many (and most) hunting properties are 10-20 (small) acres so the only place someone can hunt is on somebody elses fenceline -

so like it or not the world is changing - I despise it but if the truth is known nothing can stop it going forward -

this is why the larger, LF leases cost so much - because they are the only options in todays world

Good luck to you Sir

How does that work? It's not illegal to shoot on your own property, regardless of the month.

I’ve always tried to be a good neighbor and not target shoot during hunting season. I always want to get along with the neighbors.

Yesterday I was watching two doe that were both very nervous and skittish. I had the glass on one of them when someone on the next property shot their rifle. She slightly flinched but didn’t even turn around to look.

Later a young buck came and bedded down about 110 yards from my stand. Deer hunting was slow so I shot my 22 at a squirrel. The buck turned and looked but didn’t move.

I also remember sighting in my rifle one year at the range, where there were 15 or more people shooting, and a couple of deer were feeding behind the targets.

So I hear you....at my place there’s no target shooting during hunting season. Not sure if it makes a difference.

I'm guessing that they considered that hunter harassment.

That should not have affected the hunting one iota. Deer get used to such regular events and will eventually ignore them.

What seems to bother the deer the most aren't the sudden noises, gun shots, etc. but sudden noises, gun shots, etc. that are out of place. Same thing for hunting leases where there is nobody virtually all year long and then all of a sudden the lease is populated with a dozen or more people, half a dozen vehicles, smells of cooking, people talking and laughing, etc. All of a sudden, the whole atmosphere of the area changes...

The first shots I heard Saturday morning was a three shot group, which likely resulted in a miss. Having blown their opportunity because they refuse practice during the off season, these are often the ones who start target practicing once everyone else gets back to camp. You also have guys who don't hunt but for some reason believe the beginning of deer season is a good time to bust a few caps. I can see their logic truthfully, thinking that since so many others will be shooting firearms, why not join them. I can remember one particular guy that we nicknamed "Rambo". Our lease was adjacent to the National Forest and the afternoon of every Opening Day we would hear him shooting at the same spot in the Forest. He would always shoot at least 50 rounds from what sounded like a small caliber rifle or handgun. We would hear him for about a half-hour or so before he would apparently pack up and leave. Never a peep from him again until next season.

I absolutely refuse to practice shoot on my lease for one simple reason - out of respect for ALL landowners in the area. People who live in the area and run cattle can be expected to get a little uneasy when guys start slinging hot lead everywhere. And to think of the few times, if any, some of these gun owners actually pull out and use their firearms during the off season only makes it worse.

To be honest, it also comes from a history of watching guys in deer camp checking their rifles to see why they missed hitting that deer.
