I just got a vortex LHT Hunter for my night gun. I have not checked it with a light yet but in day it’s super good glass

I also vote for going with a fire dot type scope. Mine is a Leupold VX5 3-15, and I really do like it. And, I’m real happy with the new Athlon Midas 2.5-15 BDC 600A with the partially illuminated reticle. It would be under your $600 max price.
When I say that the Athlon reticle is partially illuminated, I mean that the center portion is all that’s illuminated. The Athlon is on my 223, and I have 3 bullet types loaded for it - 40, 63, and 65 gr bullets. I can, and have, adjusted the capped turrets back and forth between those bullets, and have been dead on every time. I can let the grandkids burn up my 40’s and then adjust back for the 65’s and be confident the POI is unchanged.

I rarely have a low light requirement but scope of choice would be my 2.5-10x56 accupower. Not this scope, but I have made about 125yd shot on game with 3x. never shot game, just paper/steel, in low light but I absolutely love this Tirijicon at low light. I assume the 56mm lens has alot to do with it. Very light for its size too, first focal, NO parallax.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Best low light scope I have used or looked through during low light times is the Steiner P4xi 4-16x56. It’s flat out incredible

FFP for longer ranges is fine. Low Light conditions and the background can make some targets very difficult to see with ANY optic and as BoBo has alluded to, reducing the power of the scope will aid there.
