It was fast and furious. Lots of spoonies and blue and green teal at the pond. A few high flying pintail and some very skiddish woodys.

Nothing crazy but nice to get out and knock some rust off.

Make that 3.

If I agree with Guy and the other guy it should cause an emergency state session.

I’ve only seen golden eye off the coast from POC to Baffin. My initial thought was bufflehead but I thought they had pronounced green and purple on the head.

Anyone go out today? Man the fog was crazy didn’t really lift till 8:30. Ended up working on calling and watching.

Good start to season near Port Lavaca. 3 of us hunting - limit first day - teal, pintails, 1 spoonie, 1 bluebill. Second day - 12 total, teal, pintails, 1 Gadwall, 1 spoonie. My daughter loved the warmer weather hunting!

I like being able to hunt in December and not shut down after Thanksgiving.

Just curious as to why?

When we had the 2 week split, the 2nd split opener was always stacked with well rested, unpressured birds. Made for a great weekend of hunting.

100% a Bufflehead. Shot a few last weekend during the West Texas opener. Goldeneye's are a lot bigger, and farther North. Especially this time of year.

Bufflehead: Drake 1 solid white patch on head. Hen 2 white patch on head, one on each side of face..
Goldeneye: Drake 2 white patch on head, one on each side of face. Hen no white patch at all.

Bufflehead hen and Goldeneye drake look similar with both having white patches on side of face.

Able to hunt new birds that roll in with the fronts after thanksgiving instead of watching them sit for 2 weeks. December is typically our best month.

I was out Sunday in Lissie area and it was really foggy too until I left at 9AM. Like maybe 50 yards visibillity. No ducks flying, and no geese in this neck of the woods.I did get a really nice Widgeon though.

Saturday opening day was limits for 7 folks. Here's me with a really nice Gadwall and some of the ducks and my pup.

Yeah it’s a buff. We get some that hang around most of the season. Usually don’t shoot them too much, they act a lot like ringers, no fear and decoy to anything. This group had 3 or 4 drakes so I busted the best looking one, hit one of the hens with the same shot. I’d like to have one mounted some day. They are a pretty little bird.

Our opener was outstanding. Birds were playing along with our program. The gumbo was good. Our blind we built in September was gone. No trace! Hurricane whatever got it. Built another!

Ended before it started...about 5 miles East of Bastrop, At about 1:30AM, Bambi with his cute little forks dashed in front of the GF's 2020 Chevrolet Silverado...$6800 worth of damage later I limped back home and endured the wrath...

Were the backstraps salvageable?
